Author's note: Sometimes I regret making short chapters, but when I try to write longer ones, the quality decreases by a lot so...

A rich smell of the food filled the air and you mixed everything into one big pot. The kids grabbed plates and cutlery and set a table outside, waiting for you to bring the pot. You slammed it down and took the lid off. Scar's daughter handed you a landle and held up her plate, waiting for you to put the food onto it. Each kid got a different portion and you took some too. You all sat down and started to eat, and it wasn't half bad actually, not the best but not the worst eighter. Definitely better than Stillwater food that's for sure.

The stone to the entrance rolled away and in walked multiple masked Firelights, Ekko was carrying someone in his arms as he whispered something to Scar, who was looking your direction. The leader walked away to a med room with one other member and the rest came to you and the kids, Heimerdinger also showed up.
"You made this?"
One of the members addressed you and you recognized the voice of the girl who usually could be found in the kitchen.
"The kids helped a lot. We actually made enough for everyone, at least I think so."

The Firelights exchanged few words and some glances and one by one they took seats around the table. Scar sat next to his daughter, who was taking up a seat by your side, the girl sat opposite of you and the seat on yourself other side stayed empty as others sat down too.
"It's not half bad actually."
"Thank you!"
A pleasant conversation flowed while you ate and after some time, Ekko showed up too, but he didn't sit down to eat.

The boy filled his plate and turned to you.
"Come with me."
You put your cutlery into the empty plate you ate from and left the table, waving to the kids before you turned to follow Ekko. The boy walked up the stairs around the tree with you on his heels, he led you all the way up to his balcony, where he sat down and motioned for you to do the same. You joined him on the ground and waited for what's gonna happen next.

"I assume you want to go back to the creature tonight right?"
You watched him speak, his face seemed tired and defeated.
"I uh, yes, I did want to, but that was before I knew you were going out on a mission and everything."
The boy started to eat out of his plate and you fiddled with your laces.
"I'm impressed, it's actually eatable."
"Not much to fuck up on noodles and vegetables."
"So, you aren't keen on going to the billboard again eh?"
Ekko's face started to become a little more lively again.
"Not really, but if you don't feel like going to sleep on time, I do have a... You know what forget it, I'll just keep this for a different time."

The boy shrugged and ate their last of his food and shrugged.
"If you say so, I won't pry."
You chuckled at his statement and leaned against the railing of his balcony.
"How was the mission anyway?"
Ekko sighed and his expression darkened again as he bored his eyes into the empty plate.
"We lost one and one is injured, but it was a success at least."
"I'm so sorry to hear that."
The leader sighed and pushed himself off the ground, grabbing the plate on his way up.
"It's just how things go."
