You were running around with the creature, spending a little more time with her to make up for not visiting her in a while, and Fae seemed to appreciate it, making her little sounds three times as usual. She was facing you and waiting for you to stop messing with the same chair leg Ekko almost fought her with, when suddenly she averted her gaze to something behind you and her long scales rose on her back. You stopped what you were doing and observed Fae as she quickly broke into a run, causing you to turn to follow her with your eyes and finally notice the masked person on the same device you had used to get there. Fae jumped in the air and almost caught the person, but at the last second they turned and shot upwards, speeding in your direction and as they got closer you recognised the white owl mask.
"C'mere Fae, it's okay!"
You called to her, and she listened, placing herself at your side, but letting out a frustrated rumble. The scales on her head and back were still raised, and you tried to calm her down with pets as the board stopped in the air in front of you.
"What are you doing here?"
Echoed in a deep robotic voice from the machine and you rolled your eyes.
"Take off your mask and come here you idiot, she doesn't recognize you!"
The mask came off with a hiss and stayed hanging in Ekko's hand as he slowly approached you and the salamander. Fae watched him through slit eyes until he came close enough and she remembered who he was.The creature squealed and pressed her head against the boy's body, greeting him. Ekko looked at you and then down to Fae and slowly raised his hand to pet her.
"So, what are you doing here?"
He repeated his question, still wanting an answer, you opened your mouth to reply but stopped mid word, tilting your head and giving Ekko a confused stare.
"Huh?"
"Did I do something?"
You stayed staring for a few more moments, the gears in your mind doing their best to make sense of what the boy was trying to get across. And then it clicked.
"OH, no no no no, you didn't do anything dude, I just didn't wanna wake you up, that's all."
Ekko let out a sigh of relief and ran a hand through his hair, followed by a small chuckle."Okay, great, I didn't want it to be weird between us, you know."
"You didn't want it to be weird, but you made me sleep in your bed? For the second time, might I add."
You scoffed with a smile spreading across your lips as you shook your head and kneeled down to pet Fae, who was begging for attention by repeatedly gently ramming her head into your leg.
"Well when you put it like that it does sound weird."
He admitted and came to your side, joining you on the ground, watching as you ran your hands across the salamanders ashy skin.
"How else would I put it?"
You averted your eyes back to him and he quickly turned his towards Fae, trying to play it off as if he wasn't staring at you at all.
"It was just a sleepover that's all."
"Uh huh, okay."
You kept your eyes on him, waiting to see whether or not he would try to stare at you again, but gave up quickly, because Fae was begging for attention yet again."Oh yeah, that reminds me, you left this in my room."
Ekko's gloved hand disappeared into the pocket of his jacket, searching for something and then pulling out the necklace he gave you as a gift of appreciation when you saved his life.
"I didn't even know I took it off, but now that I think of it, I do wake up sometimes and find it laying on the ground so..."
You snickered at your own words and tried to take the necklace from him, but he pulled his hand away, raising an eyebrow at you.
"Okay, put it on me yourself, I don't care."
The boy shifted slightly closer and opened the necklace, putting it around your neck and closing it again."I have to go Fae, but I'll be back, I promise."
The creature paced nervously at the border of the street, not daring to step one foot outside of it. You looked at her and felt a wave of sadness wash over you, you couldn't wait for the project Ekko agreed to help you with to be finished and you could bring her with you finally.
"See, this is what I meant."
Ekko nodded as you addressed him and let out a low hum in answer while putting his mask on again.
"She just doesn't wanna leave this stupid street."
An annoyed sigh was let out from your mouth before the air was filled with the whirring sound of hoverboards as you two flew back into the base.
