Mateo's POV:
A few months ago...back in Genova Boarding School
I've been friends with Luca for a while now, and it's been a blast getting to known him. His thing with astronomy is fascinating; when he talks about the planets in our solar system, he speaks loudly with enthusiasm and a huge smile on his face. Not everyone has a quirk like this, so I had to tell him about my love for photography. I mean, it was my own quirk, something I loved to do in secret. My parents don't think I can have a career being a photographer, they want me to become a big shot lawyer like them.
Whenever I felt sad, or pissed at my parents, I'd head over to Luca's and Giulia's dorm to get away from them since I didn't live in the dorms like every student. My parents requested a waiver just for me to stay at home. I hate it.
*BRINGGGG*
The bell rings for lunch and I'm snapped out of my daze. I bolt to our table as usual to save it for my friends. It's farther away from the middle of the cafeteria and next to a big, clear glass window where the light shines brightly on our table.
I sit and wait patiently for Luca and Giulia to come out of their math class. I get out my camera from my bag and start taking pictures of the view outside. It's early Spring, a few flowers are sprouting and some trees are already green. Then, I hear Luca's laugh from across the cafeteria. I'm pretty sure Giulia did something stupid - as always - to make him laugh like that. I soon found myself smiling at him. Instinctively, I raise my instant camera and captured this moment.
Luca's fair skin was flawless, and the red on his cheeks brought life to his face. And his smile...
"Hey Mateo!" Luca happily greets me, putting his stuff down, Giulia doing the same, "let's go get in line!"
I snap out of it, trying to look like I was not just intensely staring at him. I put my camera safely back in my bag and join up with the both of them in line.
Once the school day was over, I asked if I could go to their room for a while before I head home. As always, they said yes.
Their room was very organized, well mostly in Luca's side. Giulia's however looked like a pigsty, clothes on her bed and food wrappers on the floor.
"Giulia, I swear I think I saw that same wrapper in that exact spot since last week," I say as I point at the empty potato chip bag next to her vanity.
"It's my emotional support trash!" she sarcastically explains as she goes to pick it up. She crumbles it up and attempts to throw it in the trash across the room. It hits Luca on the head instead.
"Oopsie! My bad Luca," she apologizes with some snickers coming out of her mouth. Luca picks it up and throws it away. "Giulia, you have to work on your aim. The trash wasn't even that far away," Luca says while giggling. I didn't notice my cheeks begin to blush until Giulia pointed it out.
"Yo Mateo, is it that hot in here?" Before I was going to respond with a simple, yes, she says "Oh wait, of course it's super hot since I'm here." At least I'm not blushing anymore.
