After Paige answered, Whimsy's heart skipped a beat. She didn't know how to react. They were surrounded by an awkward silence, and Paige noticed the shift in the air. She chose not to say anything further, not wanting to make it more uncomfortable for Whimsy. Both of them resumed finishing their cups of ice cream in silence.
As they walked out of the store, Paige suddenly spoke, "Do you want to drop by the park for a moment?"
Whimsy hesitated at first but eventually nodded "Yeah, sure"
As they walk their way to the park, Paige notices Whimsy's right hand was a little bit red, indicating that she's cold. She reached for it, Whimsy was startled when she felt Paige's touch.
Paige looked at Whimsy and smiled. "Just trying to keep your hand warm." Whimsy blushed but didn't resist, partly because it was cold and partly because it was Paige. They walked together, hand in hand.
The park was quiet when they arrived. The path was illuminated by streetlights, lanterns, and twinkling Christmas lights. They decided to sit near a big pond with a fountain adorned with various Christmas decorations.
Paige looked at Whimsy. "You know, the best way to clear your mind is to talk about it with someone."
Whimsy bit her lip, hesitating before she spoke. "Do you think love is worth the risk?"
Paige paused, her face softening. "Love is all about taking risks, Whimsy. It is scary, but it's worth everything when you commit to the right person. For me, love is the most beautiful thing we can experience. It can change us, make us better versions of ourselves, and give us hope."
Whimsy looked at Paige, their eyes meeting. "Have you committed to someone?"
Paige chuckled. "No, as much as I want to. I was too busy with basketball. How about you?"
Whimsy sighed. "Me too, I was too busy with my studies... but now..." she trailed off.
"But now... I'm starting to realize that there's more to explore than just focusing on one thing," she added.
Paige looked a bit confused. "What do you mean, Whimsy?" she gently squeezed her hand.
Whimsy took a deep breath. This was it, she was going to open up about her feelings for Paige. "Paige..." her voice was a bit shaky.
"Hmm?" Paige responded.
"I think I'm falling in—" Whimsy was cut off by Paige's sudden movement. Paige reached out and brushed something off Whimsy's hair.
"Sorry, something got in your hair—oh, I think it's snowing!"
Whimsy looked up, and sure enough, it was snowing. Little snowflakes were starting to slowly fall, glistening in the glow of the streetlights. Suddenly, the moment became special and magical.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Paige softly laughed, watching the snowflakes fall.
Whimsy nodded. "Yeah... it is." Her gaze turned to Paige, who was smiling, her eyes sparkling.
