Wrong Number
I sat with three others in a karaoke bar. Luckily we had our own private booth away from everyone else.
There was me, Yumi, Yoshiki, and Keichi. Yumi is my new friend, and Keichi is her boyfriend. Yoshiki is Keichi's best friend, and the boy I have a crush on. Yumi thought this was the perfect opportunity to hook us up. I couldn't, and didn't want to refuse. I was just overly nervous.
"Mayoko, this is the perfect opportunity to ask Yoshiki for his number." Yumi whispers to me.
"Ah I can't." My face began to go pink. I was a nervous wreck.
"Keichi, may I speak to you outside?" Yumi gets up, and takes Keichi's hand.
"Okay babe." He gets up, and follows her outside. Before they left, Yumi turns, and winks at me. She then mouthed "good luck." Then she left the room leaving only me, and Yoshiki alone.
There was an awkward silence that came between us, but I slowly broke it. I didn't want to be shy anymore so I took a deep breath, and asked.
"Yoshiki, may I have your number so we can text?" I finally blurted out.
He smiles at me. "I was just about to ask you."
My face lit up. I didn't need to feel so scared, and nervous after all. I took out my flip phone. "Okay! Let's scan our contact info." I suggested. We lived in the luxury period where we can scan our flip phones so our contact info synced instead of having to type it.
"Sadly my phone doesn't have the scan option." He frowns.
"Oh it's okay. You can give me the info manually then." I smiled. There was no way I would let this opportunity pass me by.
"Okay. My name is Yoshiki with a 1155 at the end. Also I'll give you my number just in case you can't find me." He gives me his info, and I typed it into my phone. You had to get the name to match up with the number so I listened carefully for his info. I also typed in the phone number, but I felt looking up his user was easier.
"Okay. I'll text you later." I smiled.
"Okay."
Later that night, I finally built up the courage to text Yoshiki. I laid in bed debating what I should say.
"Hey it's Mayoko. This is my contact info. I just wanted to say that I had fun at karaoke today. We should do that again sometime." I texted out. I felt I should add more so I added a heart emoji at the end of the message, and pressed send. Instantly I regretted it. I think I overdid it with that heart emoji. It may make me look desperate or something.
Beep beep. My phone vibrated along with the text message melody. I instantly went to check it.
"I would love to meet up tomorrow at the beach. Just the two of us." He replied with a smiley face after.
I smiled to myself as I hugged my phone. I can't believe this is happening so quick. I must be the luckiest girl on the planet.
I texted back: "Okay! Let's meet at the fountain near the north park at 12:00 as we usually would. Then we can go to the beach."
"Okay, can't wait." He replies.
The next day before I went out, I made sure to groom myself well. I let my hair down, and put on some lip gloss. I didn't want to seem like I tried too hard. I scurried to my closet to find a sun dress. I slipped that on, and left the house with my purse, and cellphone.
The park wasn't far, and it was decent walking distance. I got there around 11:45. Luckily I got there early since I hate people that are late.
I sat at the fountain for some time. I peeked at my phone, and it was already 12:30. What could be taking him so long? I decided to text him.
