Chapter 14: An Attempt to Rescue

"Will Cortenya permit us to meet Deave?"

"We could try asking her..." I replied to Emily's question.

"She won't." A voice came. Startled, I turned around and saw Alaric standing with his hands in the pocket.

"What do you mean?" Emily asked.

"I asked Cortenya and she even rejected me to talk to Deave. There was also a meeting of the Royals and Tessa's parents with the prosecution." He suddenly gave a pause and gulped, "They are gonna do it."

"The Ritual?" Emily asked. Her tears were back, no, they had never gone...

Alaric slightly nodded. "I refuse to believe that he did that. I do know that he doesn't give a damn before killing some idiot but he would never commit something like this."

"He didn't."

"How do you know?"

"Come with me and you on the other hand Emily better take some rest, okay?"

Me and Alaric went out in the corridors and stood near a balcony. The Moon wasn't there, what would I stare at now? But there were still the cold, harsh winds. I closed my eyes and breathed in. Don't cry. Don't cry again. It will all be alright, somehow.

"Aren't you gonna scold me or something?" Alaric's voice makes me escape my thoughts and I look at him with a look of utter disgust.

"I am the worst brother ever." He looked down and passed a fake smile.

"Hey! Don't blame yourself. It wasn't your fault." I slightly smack him with my elbow.

"No Faye! You think I don't know what you're going through after Grandpa's Death? You can make everyone think you're fine but not me Faye, I know you still blame everything onto yourself. Then this whole Morana shit started! I should've been there by your side but no! That Morana took control of me and I hurted you so much! All I can do is blabber nonsense Faye! I am useless." He takes all his guilt and frustration out.

"Come here you Dumb Idiot!" I pull his arm and hug him tight.

"I am not dumb." He mumbles.

"That means you are an idiot."

"I am not an idiot." He laughs.

"That means you are dumb."

" Would you just stop playing this game?" He growls.

"My fate is playing such horrible games and I can't even play one with you?" I say it as a joke but it had a deeper meaning. The tension grew between us.

There was complete silence.

"So who killed Tessa?"

"Remember how Tessa, Morana and Emily along with Deave went out together all of a sudden. Next we three go out to check on them and there lies Tessa's body, Deave looked at it, Emily cried and Morana was shocked. They all were acting really weird as if something had happened. Next move was played by Deave, he took the blame on himself. Also try to recall how Emily constantly tried to tell us something but she couldn't." I explained as he kept on nodding.

"Emily was in the control of Morana all this time. Under her influence, Emily killed Tessa. Morana told me that Emily had got free earlier only and she freed the others in anger, So, there is a huge possibility that Morana had done Puppet controlling on Emily. Basically Ric, Deave cast a spell on Emily so she can't tell some truth and Emily with this guilt tried to commit suicide." I continued.

"She did what?!!" He was astonished as he held his head. I looked at the clock, it was 5:00 a.m. now. It was Morning and in a couple of hours, Deave would be performing the ritual, he would be executed.
