Black Widow Chapter Thirteen: Snake in the Grass

"About time you showed up," Eli called as Sloane made her way onto the beach. To celebrate their summer, a day at the beach only seemed right. They could do with some unwinding before the next lesson. Who knows what Sensei Lawrence had in store for them today?

"Well, some of us have these things called responsibilities," Sloane fired back with a grin. She put her bag down and took her shirt and shorts off so her legs could finally see some sun too. She could really do with some tanning. Get her vitamin D level up.

"Damn, where have you been hiding that waistline?" Moon gushed while approaching Sloane. She wrapped her arms around her girl for a hug and kept one arm around her shoulders as she walked with her to Eli and Demetri.

Sloane gave her a smile. If she wasn't so sweet, Moon would've been easier to dislike. Sloane felt disgusted with herself for thinking like that. For feeling butterflies in her stomach when she wrestled with Eli yesterday. For feeling envy instead of happiness because her best friend was happy with his new girlfriend.

"Alright, now we can play two against two," Eli suggested, but Demetri quickly shook his head no.

"Hawk, Sloane," Miguel called out as he approached them.

"Hey, there's the man." Eli grinned and greeted Miguel with a handshake before quickly noticing his depressed mood. "No. No more of this. Look, it's a beautiful day out. The beach is packed with babes. No more sulking about Sam."

Miguel shook his head. "I'm not sulking about Sam. It's about Sensei," he replied.

Sloane frowned and walked to him. "What's wrong with Sensei?" she wondered.

"If this is about his rap sheet, my parents read it online. I think it makes him more badass," Eli said, shrugging.

Miguel sighed. "It's about him and Robby Keene," he stated. "Did you see how he ran to him when he got injured? I went to his house this morning and I found a picture of Keene stuck to his fridge. I think he might be his son."

Sloane's eyes widened slightly in surprise. That would certainly explain why he would run to someone from another dojo to check up on them, but why would he hide it from them? "Well, do you think or are you sure?" she asked.

"I haven't asked him about it. It's just- Why else would he have a picture of him?" Miguel reasoned.

Sloane sighed. "Well, he probably has a reason to not tell us. We should make sure you're right before we ask him about it," she suggested. The last thing they needed while Miguel and Eli were still a little in hot water with Johnny was to throw around accusations and piss him off even more.

"So, I did a deep dive online and you were right. Sensei's definitely Keene's father," Eli said as he, Miguel, and Sloane were stretching before class.
