DISCLAIMER: I OWN NOTHING

Clary

I open the door to my mother's house and let myself in. I left shortly after he had, It was just too dangerous to stay there. I tried to think of ways to convince my mom to take me out of this school without telling her that I lied to the police. She would just become more afraid, I'd be back to being trapped in my room, she'd tell my father, and he would never forgive me for lying to the police. It would be a disaster.

"Clary?" My mother walks out from her office. "What are you doing here? school doesn't get out till three... You're not even supposed to walk home I told you I would pick you up and drop you off. Don't you understand how dangerous the streets in Brooklyn are? God Clary, what is it going to take for you to give a shit about your safety? Who else has to get shot?" My mother began ranting, yelling at me, not giving me a chance to reply. I sighed and dropped my school bag on the floor.

"Mom I can't go back there." I told her, I could sense a whiny and desperate tone coming out of my mouth, but I didn't have enough motivation to hide it.

Unless you wanna turn up like your stepmother

Jace's grotesque words echoed in my head, causing me to shiver at the thought. The smeared blood on the marble floor flashed before my eyes. "Please mom the people there are so weird." I begged, but her facial expression didn't falter.

"I don't care if you think they're weird. Your father and I both came to the agreement that you going to this school is the best course of action." She sternly said.

"But can't I go to a charter school? or transfer to another public school? Maybe East Grove High school? or literally any other school." My mothers eyes narrowed at me.

"No, Clary. East Grove is a 20 minute drive without traffic, the transfer would take too long, and no other charter school is closer than Brooklyn High school, that is the closest school, that is the safest school, that is where you are going. Now, If I catch you skipping school again, we're going to start having issues Clarissa, you cannot be outside on your own, it's too dangerous." She ended her sentence swiftly, sending the signal that she is done having this conversation.

"But mom, the people at that school are the danger." I implored for her to please listen to me, to read inbetween the lines and just give in to my requests.

"You're just saying that because you're used to fancy St.Xaviers. I went to West Lake High school, Brooklyn High school was like our rich kid school, please Clary don't make this harder than it has to be." She said as she rubbed her eyes. My mother didn't usually talk about her past, and she rarely called me a brat, but I suppose without giving her the full story, she would never understand. I sighed and went up the stairs to my room. I closed the door and melted onto the floor. This room was making me go crazy. I decided to take a shower and put on some comfy clothes. I felt like watching a movie to take my mind off of Jace and my mom.

As I pick my jeans off the bathroom floor to put them in the hamper, Mary Kate's note falls out of the pocket. I completely forgot about it, I pick up the note and place the jeans in the hamper. If im gonna have to stay at that God forsaken school, I might as well have someone who could help me not upset the shadow hunters. I dial the number on my phone and press call. The phone rings a couple times until she finally picks up.

    "Hello, who's this?"

"Hey Mary Kate, It's Clary, from your world history class, you gave me your number after that girl Isabelle bitched me off her seat" I said with a small laugh.

"Oh Clary! Hi, yeah you're new right? I tried to look for you at lunch but I couldn't find you." She said sweetly.

"Oh yeah, I felt bad so I decided to go home early." I didn't have to tell her everything.

"Wow, schools getting to you already huh?" she asked.

"Um, yeah a little." I mumbled.

"Alright well, there's only a couple rules you need to follow to survive. Im sure you saw all the kids in full black, they're not always in full black, but they usually always have tattoos, or at least a leather jacket or something. They're Shadow hunters, it's a low risk gang that has infested Brooklyn High School by recruiting anyone who will join. All of the shadow hunters are so incredibly cunty, they act like animals, if you sit or take up space they claim as theirs, they'll bitch at you, but I've seen a couple people get beat up. Just, stay away from them, you definitely don't want to get on their bad side, that would be a whole other disaster. The school claims they're trying to fix the issue, but because of the intense cut on school budget, it basically hasn't happened." She explained. "They throw lots of parties, they can be good, but pretty dangerous, it's best to not go." She was starting to sound like my mother, except her fear was justified. "Oh, and sometimes the girls will take over the bathrooms at certain times, if you walk in on more than one shadow hunter in the bathroom or locker room when there aren't any teachers around, its best to just turn around and walk away. Don't say a word to them, even if they talk to you." She added. "Also, If you're talking to any guys or girls...like talk talking, you should just be careful. If that person is a Shadowhunter member, or is talking to a shadow hunter member or if a Shadowhunter member simply likes them, it could also be pretty dangerous....And that's about it." Mary Kate finishes. I suppose it wasn't too bad, I didn't plan on going to any parties or talking to anyone anyway, what's the point if I can't even leave my mom's house?

"Thank you so much for telling me all this Kate, I was so freaked out when Isabelle snapped at me. I just hope nothing else like that happens." I explained. I sure wish nothing worse happens, but the chances of that are slim, especially after what Jace told me, and the fact that I will not be following his advice of getting the fuck away from that school.

"Oh yeah, no problem, and you're always welcome to sit lunch with me and Lola, she's like the only other normal person at school, If you turn right, right when you enter the lunch room and go all the way to the corner, we sit on the last table of the first row, you'll see us right away." She offered, I smiled, and had an overwhelming feeling of safety, I thanked the angels above me for Mary Kate, It was the first time I felt a sense of security in a while.

"Thanks Kate, alright, I'll see you tomorrow," I said. Mary Kate said goodbye and we ended the call. It might be silly to put so much power on only two friends, but at the very least, I won't be completely alone anymore. I crawled into bed and opened up my laptop and put on Sex and the city. I finally felt some bliss.
