Clary

The harsh yellow street light shined on my surroundings as I approached the red brick building. The numbers 4322 were nailed to the wall and framed in gold. It matched the numbers on the address Lola texted me.  The cement steps led to a white door, protected by a steel black security door. There was a humble brown pot with a plant next to the welcome mat on the porch. I pressed the white button next to the handle and heard the old-fashioned ring of the doorbell.

I heard the rustling behind the door, and soon after I was met with Lola swinging the door open revealing the outfit she showed me on FaceTime. She had a fat white cat, clutched tightly up to her chest.

"Oh my Goddd!" She squealed, and I swear she squeezed the cat even tighter than she already had him. " You're here! here, let me get this open!" She lunged towards the security door and struggled to get it open, and once she finally did, she held it so I could walk through. "How was the walk? hopefully not too bad?" Lola asked as she closed the doors, locking all the locks she just unlocked.

"No, It was fine," I replied as I looked around her home. The living room was to the left of the entrance, an old brown couch lay up against the wall with a small tv on the other side of the room. The coffee table was old, scratched up and cluttered with magazines, cups and dishes. The carpet underneath it was dull and dirty. The kitchen was at the end of the hall and the stairs were set between the living room and kitchen. To the right I could see a long dark hallway with two white doors, one of the doors was open, with a yellow light shining through.

"Good!"Lola interrupted me with her bubbly voice. "My room is this way!" She said as she hopped towards the dark hallway and into the room with the door open. I followed her and peered into the doorway. It was a small room with beige walls. Her full bed was the centerpiece of the room, taking up most of the space. Clothes cluttered her floor, and makeup cluttered her desk. Mary Kate was sitting on the bed, smiling at me as I walked in.

"Hey Clary," she said with a shy wave. Lola drops the cat on her bed and reaches over her desk.

"Have you had anything yet Clary?" Lola asks, her voice giggly. It was then that I noticed the seltzer in Mary Kate's hand and the empty cans that cluttered the shelves that were hung on the wall. I had never drunk any alcohol. My parents never let me, and I didn't really have any friends who were interested in drinking.

"Oh, no I haven't" I mumbled and put my tote bag down on the floor off to the side of the entrance to her room.

"Do you want a seltzer?" Lola asks, a brand new can in her hand. She had it pointed towards me, as if she was about to offer it to me. "OooO! or should we do shots!" Lola suddenly took the seltzer back, jumping as though she got the idea of the century.

"Have you ever had alcohol, Clary?" Mary Kate asked, taking a sip of her drink. I knew that if I said no, they would just baby me about it and not let me have any.

"Yeah, I have." I lied. Lola grabs a huge bottle of vodka, with three glass shot glasses and sets them on her already cluttered table.

"Ok, Wait..I need to go get some chasers....ugh... you guys are fine drinking out of the same can of Coke right? I don't feel like listening to my brother bitch about wasting all the coke..." Lola groans, deflating a little. Mary Kate nods, giving her a small smile.

"Yeah, that's fine," I said, and with that, Lola perked right back up and left the room. I decided to stop hovering near the door frame, and went to go sit next to Kate and Lola's cat. Mary Kate downs the rest of her seltzer and grabs the fat cat, putting it in her lap.
