Game Night

We sat the whole car ride in silence, no music, no speaking. I slammed my car door shut and ran upstairs to my room. I passed Josh downstairs and I could hear him outside, "what the hell happened?"

"Some dude was hitting on her at the shops so I stepped in and made it stop."

   "Stepped in how?"

"I told him she was taken. That's all." Noah is my favorite part of this whole damn place and now, he isn't even going to want to talk to me. I liked him, he was cute and sweet.

knock-knock-knock

"Hey, Kins, you okay?" I sniffled, "yep. Fine."

The door creaked open and Josh was standing in the door way, "can I?" I nodded him permission to come in.

   "What's going on?"

"Nothing that you would understand," he sits down on the bed beside me, "try me."

   "No."

   "Why? Is it that bad?"

   "Yes."

"Okay, then can you at least come downstairs? I got stuff for a game night." I sit up and wipe the tears away and follow him downstairs. I see two stacks of cards and I already know what we are playing. "Seriously?"

"What? It's the adult version. There is alcohol involved." That caught my attention. I drink here and there but being 18 means I can't buy my own. I sit down on the stool across from the boys and steal a piece of pizza. "Thank you."

The game starts out pretty easy, I'm only two shots in and my brother is on shot number 5 while Cole has taken 7. The rules are basically, either do the dare or take a shot and either answer the question or take a shot. I am trying not to get shit faced so if I have to eat a spoon full of mayonnaise, I will.

   "Okay, Kinsley, truth or dare?"

   "Truth."

"Okay, there is no way I am asking this," Cole rips the card from Josh's hand and laughs. "Truth: are you a virgin?" Fuck. It's not like it matters much, at this rate, I'll probably die one, "yes." Cole starts coughing out his beer and Josh looks at me proudly, "that's my sister."

"Okay, Cole, truth or dare?" He studies my face when he finally calms down from his coughing fit, "dare." I pull the dare card for him and it says to kiss whoever's asking the question. My eyes widen trying to make it say anything else. "What?"

"Nothing, I'm just gonna-," I clear my throat, before I can slide it back in Josh grabs it from me and Cole leans over. "Oh shit," Josh laughs, "you gotta kiss her man."

"Okay," he stands up and wobbles around the counter. "No!" I scream and Josh stands up while Cole stops. "What?"

"I'm not doing this, okay? It's a stupid dare!" I run as fast as I can outside, since they are both drinking, I assume neither of them can follow me. I am out there watching the sunset but don't even realize how long I must have been out here for because suddenly, the stars are reflecting off the ocean that's making calming noises of crashing waves.

"What was that about?" I jump and look behind me to see Cole.

   "Nothing. Where's my brother?"

"He crashed on the couch." I nod. "Are you actually?"

"What?" He's drunk, even if I didn't watch him take how many shots, his breath reeks of beer and vodka. "Are you actually a virgin?" I nod yes and decide not to say a word. Here comes the tormenting. "Wow." That's it? Just wow. That sounds even more pathetic than making fun of me. I nod again. "Why wouldn't you kiss me?"

"What?" He's joking. He has to be. Don't get me wrong, I would love to feel his plump lips against mine, but he's my brother's best friend. Plus, I don't want my first kiss to be a drunken mistake. I want it to be with someone who actually gives a shit about me.

"Why wouldn't you kiss me?" He's serious. "You're drunk." I stand up and walk away but he grabs my hand and stands up pulling me into him. "I'm not drunk, I'm tipsy. There's a difference."

"Right. I'm going to bed. Good night Cole."

"Good night babe." I roll my eyes and don't even bother trying to tell him not to call me that.
