.Chapter 4: In Love With My Best Friend

~5 months later~
Riker's P.O.V.
Today I was meeting Kyla at the ice-cream shop like we usually do every week. I walked into the shop and saw she was sitting at the counter. I decided to scare her a little. I walked up to a random stranger and asked him to do me a favor. I whispered to him in his ear and he nodded in response. An evil smirk plastered on my face as I walked back out of the parlor.

Kyla's P.O.V.
I was sitting at the counter waiting for Riker to come. Ugh what's taking him so long. He's usually here by 12:00 and it's 12:45. Where is he? I hope nothing bad happened to him. I don't know what I would do without my best friend.

As if the world read my mind, I heard a random stranger saying, "Did you all hear about the car accident with that Lynch guy from R5?" At that moment my heart stopped. Another person said, "Yeah Riker was his name right?" "Yeah he plays bass I think." I already started feeling the warm tears down my cheeks. I lowered my head and started sobbing. Why wouldn't the guys call and tell me? Was I really that unimportant? My quiet sobbing turned violently in a matter of seconds.

Then out of nowhere the person who I wasn't expecting plopped down on the seat next to me. "Hey Kyla, wait why are you crying?" the person asked. I turned my head and realised it was my best friend Riker. "RIKER!!!" I jumped onto him and wrapped my arms around his neck. "Well somebody was excited to meet me,"he laughed. "But.....I thought....I-I thought y-you were in an......a-accident," I cried. He smirked and said, "Surprise." Wait.....WHAT!?!?!? "You did this? Riker I thought you were hurt. I thought I lost you," I cried violently.

Riker's P.O.V.
".......I thought I lost you," Kyla cried. I didn't really think I would hurt her so much. I feel really bad now. "Hey hey hey don't cry. I'm really sorry Kyla. I didn't mean to scare you," I said as I wrapped my arms around her tightly. She clung onto my shirt and continued crying. I rubbed her back and she slowly calmed down. "You okay now?" I asked. "Yeah. Can we just go to your place or something? I don't wanna stay here," she said as a single tear rolled down her flawless face. Wait...WHAT DID I JUST SAY? I can't fall for my best friend. I just can't. I wiped away her tears and replied, "Sure thing." With that we both walked out to my car and we're heading to my place.

On our way there I began thinking of all we did together for the past 5 months. Wow, it's been 5 months already. Where did the time go? My thoughts were interrupted by my phone ringing. "Hello?" "Hey Riker, it's mom. Can you please pick up some aspirin for your father please?" She asked. "Sure mom, bye." I hung up the phone and continued. "Who was that Riker?" Kyla asked. "Mom wanted me to pick up some aspirin so we'll just stop at Super Pharm before we go home," I replied. "Okay then," she said and turned her attention to outside. I really think I'm falling for her.

~At the pharmacy~
Kyla's P.O.V.
I stood at the magazine stand flipping through some magazines while Riker was at the counter getting the medicine. Then, some guy no younger than 18 came up to me with an smirk on his face and his friends behind him. "Hey babe. What's a pretty girl like you doing here all by yourself,"he said. I backed away slowly and answered, "Stay away from me." He then grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to him.

"GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER!!!" I heard and turned around to see a not too happy Riker storming over to us. He grabbed my other arm and pulled me behind him protectively. "What do you think you're doing?" Riker asked the guy clearly pissed off. "Just trying to show this pretty girl here how to have some fun. You have a problem with that?" the guy asked getting all up in Riker's face. "Lemme see. Of course I do!" Riker shouted. I tugged on his shirt as I saw one of the guys friends walk up to me from behind.

The guy grabbed my arm and started running. I tried to fight back but it was no use. I screamed to Riker and he immediately came running.

Riker's P.O.V.
I heard Kyla scream and when I turned around she was being dragged away by this idiot's sidekick. I ran after them until I grabbed her arm, pulled her away and punched the guy squared in the face. It felt good. What felt better was that I had my Kyla back. I admit I am falling for her. Harder than you think. I took her out of the store and ran to the car.

She sat down with tears streaming down her face. I sighed and pulled her across the seat and onto my lap. I wrapped my arms tightly around her and she buried her head into the crook of my neck and cried. "Hey it's okay. I'm here. Don't cry.....please." I whispered soothing things into her ear as I held her close. "C'mon let's go home," I offered. She climbed back into her seat and we drove off. I really wish I could call her mine. Yea you heard me. I'm in love with my best friend, Kyla Matthews.
