The green glow that surrounded Knuckles engulfed them and suddenly the entire world seemed to stretch and warp.
He hadn't been through chaos control many times but he typically didn't enjoy the feeling of it. The Master Emerald wasn't any better.
It felt like being thrown upside down, tossed in the air, squashed, scrambled, reassembled, and then having all of your insides rearranged. He'd rather just fly.
The world swirled around for a moment longer after the light faded. He tried to recollect himself and when everything stopped spinning he found himself in front of a massive field of flowers.
"Woah-" the area was so wide and the island seems to stretch out with ruins and nature everywhere.
There was a massive pyramid-like structure behind them that towered into the sky and a row of large stone rings in the distance.
"Mmph." Shadow grumbled beside him scanning the area. "Where are these Koco you mentioned? I don't want to be here any longer than we have to."
Tails rolled his eyes at the other. "Yes, yes, I know, the "Ultimate Lifeform" is too high and mighty for something as plain as scenery."
Shadow turned and growled at him "Did you not want to get your brother fixed as soon as possible? And for your information this entire place is causing an irritating prickling sensation. Excuse me for not wanting to be somewhere where the air stings."
Tails furrowed his brows "that might actually be cyberspace that you're feeling. These islands are woven with it. You're the first person to enter one without being connected to it so it's possible that's the cause." The hybrid only huffed.
"How interesting" he drawled, "I'll ask again. Where are these Koco?"
Chaos this was gonna be a long day. They've been together for ten minutes and he's already sick of Shadow.
"Well," Tails said, forcing a smile. "They're kinda spread all over the place, on the last island we actually didn't see any, it was strange."
"Mm."
Again, Shadow, always such a great conversationalist.
He really doesn't understand how his brother can stand the guy. Shadow was so... Unexpressive. He just grumbled and complained and insisted on being better. He was so negative constantly and it was so draining to put up with. Meanwhile Sonic was always energetic and kind of airheaded. How the combination of enthusiasm and apathy managed to work was beyond him.
"Let's start by searching this structure." He said gesturing to the pyramid. "Havoc said this island was for diplomats, it's likely a large political building."
"Mm, yes, let's follow along to the instructions of the person we're trying to kill. Fantastic idea." Shadow remarked and Tails promptly ignored him setting off toward the structure.
As they searched he started to become more and more concerned about this plan. Would Naka even be on this island? Iizuka was on Chaos island, he was moved there after the End appeared, what if they'd done the same with Naka?
His searching became more frantic, Shadow was seemingly uninterested and lacked any effort in his search. Although, it could've just been that he didn't know what he was looking for.
There was a lot of weaving and ducking involved before finally they found a single Koco.
So then the missing ones on Kronos had to have been because of Sonic...
"Hello!" Tails greeted "we're looking for Naka, is there any chance you'd know where he is?"
"You are aware you are talking to a rock correct?" Shadow chirped behind him. He flicked an ear in annoyance. Chaos he could feel his blood pressure rising.
