After I recuperated fully, I wanted to face off with Melody. Ian kept arguing with me on the matter. He didn't want me anywhere near her. I looked at Ian's hand as it gripped my upper right arm, keeping me from taking another step, and then up to his eyes.
"I need this, Ian." I pleaded with my eyes, hoping he wouldn't fight me on this anymore.
He hesitated in releasing my arm but sighed heavily in defeat and turned away from me. I entered the plain white room Melody was being held in and sat in the only other chair in the room. Melody was confined to her chair by a clear gel. She twitched uncomfortably and sneered hatefully as I sat across from her. I kept my expression clear of emotion and just stared at her for a few minutes. As I sat there, I ran over what I wanted to say to her in my head. None of it seemed to matter anymore, anyway. My grandmother was gone.
Melody must have known right when I was ready to speak, because she finally spoke. "Too bad you didn't die," Melody sighed out.
I gritted my teeth and tried not give her the satisfaction of her getting to me. "That flower was an interesting twist," I commented nonchalantly.
Melody's sneer changed to something eviler looking, and she shook her head with a throaty snicker. "No, not this recent attempt on your life." She shook her head again and rolled her eyes. "My father knew my mother was too weak to finish you off," she spat venomously.
I sucked in air with complete shock. She was confirming all of our previous assumptions of my strange disappearance.
The door to the holding cell burst open forcefully and Ian charged for Melody. She didn't cringe or blink. She remained still and unwavering in her evil glare at me. I was in total shock that when General Grant caught his son within an inch of choking the life out of Melody. I still sat there staring back at her. A few other guards rushed into the tiny room and helped General Grant restrain a struggling Ian.
"Stop it, Ian," General Grant barked forcefully. He jerked Ian harder and made him look and stop. "This will not solve anything."
Ian gritted his teeth and jerked his arm free and stormed back out. General Grant nodded to the others to leave as well, and he followed them, leaving me and Melody alone once again.
Melody had an evil smile when I looked back to her.
"What are you smiling about?" I snapped at her.
She chuckled and sneered. "Oh... How I would have loved to see your face when you learned of your grandmother's death." She laughed manically.
The next thing I knew, I was the one choking Melody and someone was trying to pull me off her. Just as I was ripped away from her throat, I lashed out and slapped the bitch hard. Hard enough that her bottom lip ripped open. Blood automatically began to trickle, but only for a few short seconds until her lip healed. The leftover blood stayed and began to dry. I could not believe she was so arrogant that she would purposefully taunt me.
Her hateful glare only became worse when General Grant pulled me out of the room. With her sneering at me, I grinned winningly. I knew that was a petty move on my part, but she had it coming and the sight of the dried blood made me that much more pleased that I hit her.
"You can't let her get to you like that, Macy," General Grant said as he held me by my arms.
I looked up into his eyes and nodded. General Grant slowly released me, and I left without saying another word. My old friend, Marge, would probably say I needed therapy, but how would any Earth therapist handle my issues without going insane his or herself.
I sighed as I walked away. I went to the dock's gun range and practiced. This time it wasn't some stupid stun gun crap. This time it actually caused a large hole in the target, or targets, I was aiming for. As I aimed and destroyed the next dozen targets, I noticed a few soldiers were staring. But they remained silent, so I ignored their presence. After another dozen soldiers showed up and stared, I was starting to feel a little uncomfortable but continued to ignore them. Or at least tried to.
