I loaded my bag into the small boat where Matilda and isabelle were already sitting. It took a lot of convincing for all our parents to agree and allow us to take the boat out for a ride. With many training courses taken by Isabelle from her dad, we were ready.
The boat buzzed to life as isabelle started moving switches and pressing buttons, eventually, we moved off from the shore the coastline getting smaller and smaller as we traveled into the blue abyss.
"I can't wait this is going to be so fun" Matilda spoke energetically, peering over the boat at the rippling water.
"I know I've been dying to do this," I replied watching as isabelle steered the boat.
"Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact our parents finally agreed to this," Matilda once again said making me reflect on the months of begging it took.
Everyone in our coastal town knew that the beautiful sea between our beaches and the island beaches while beautiful, could be dangerous, but growing up in the water, we locals were confident swimming in the colorful reefs.
"And... we are here," isabelle spoke up the boat coming to a stop.
"Woohoo!" Matilda yelled ready to finally swim.
"Hey look,"
I turned my head,
"Wow it's so much bigger up close," I said, staring at the giant island in front of us, its volcano vastly more visible.
Aruna island.
No one went there, not that it was scary but the bay around it had multiple shark spottings and there wasn't much to do on the island anyway.
"Who cares we're here to swim not stare at some island we see every day," Matilda spoke hands on hips before turning and jumping into the water.
"Tilly!" isabelle yelled as the girl re-surfaced,
"You were meant to wait until I at least anchored us." isabelle said eyeing the girl who just carried on swimming around the boat.
" too late" I replied cheekily jumping into the water as well,
The warm water submerged me as bubbles erupted around me pushing me to the top.
I took a breath as I reached the surface met with the sounds of matildas laughing, my arms and legs moved helping me tread water staying afloat.
The blue water was beautiful as I looked below, my legs visible as they moved in the water, below that were fishes swimming near the bottom of the ocean.
