Taylor would be lying if she said she didn't want to spend as much time in Kansas City as she possibly could. She'd be lying if she said it was because of the hotel, because of the ice cream, because of the city.
Because she'd been supposed to leave two days ago - but she just couldn't bring herself to leave. In fact, she was actually finding herself dreading the day where she actually had to leave. Dreading the day she had to pack her suitcase and get back on the road.
For the first time in weeks, Taylor woke up in her hotel room, climbed out of bed - and opened the curtains.
She looked out the window onto Kansas City and took a deep breath.
She still felt heavy, felt like she was just made of all the shattered parts that Matty had taken a sledgehammer to - but there was something else there too. A tiny glimmer, a tiny urge to get up.
Her phone started ringing, and Taylor didn't flinch. She pulled it out of her pocket, bringing it to her ear with the hint of a smile.
"Good morning," a bright voice smiled to her. "I'm sad to tell you, but I do have practice today." He spoke - and she could see his smile. "I mean, it's nothing major but it's more of a fun thing to get us prepped for training camp."
Taylor was sure that Travis was never not smiling. In fact, the only time she'd ever seen him frown was when she'd been honest about what Matty had done to her.
"That's okay," Taylor spoke. "Do... do you think they'd let me come and watch?" She asked. "Or is that like illegal in the game world because I might go and tell all of your moves and stuff?" She paused with a smile. "Because if that's not okay then I totally get it-"
"You'd seriously want to come?" Travis sounded shocked. "Taylor, it'll be pretty boring."
"No it won't be. I know lots about football." She smirked, grinning wider when she heard Travis' laugh.
"You're more than welcome to come," he told her. "I'll buy lunch or something after." He suggested. "If you haven't died of boredom by then."
"Trav," She laughed, shaking her head. "It won't be boring. I promise. Besides, I'm very capable of entertaining myself."
"It'll go for at least a few hours-"
Taylor shrugged. "I want to see what you do best." She smiled. "Besides, it'll give me some time to brush up on my football knowledge."
Taylor was sitting with her knees up to her chest as she watched them warm up for practice. As Travis stood around laughing and chatting to his football team. She didn't even know if they knew she was there - she was sitting in a random seat in the middle of the stadium. Her security were sitting behind her, but she felt... free. Like she was just a girl watching a guy play sport. There was something comforting about that.
She'd never really cared for sport before, never cared to learn about the rules or terminology. So she didn't really know what she was watching. She'd have to get her dad to explain to her - there was no way she was going to ask Travis to sit down and explain everything to her.
She liked it - sitting there, on the sidelines, Travis' hoodie draped across her shoulders because she was sitting in the shade and she'd gotten cold.
She liked watching him, liked hearing his voice - it was so much stronger and louder than it was when she heard him talk. Everything about him changed on the football field - she expected that it was a lot like how she became another version of herself on the Eras tour stage.

There were definitely perks to Jen living in the same city as Travis. Like the fact that she'd make the trip to Kansas City every week- because she wanted to talk about her feelings, yes. But mostly, because it gave her an excuse to see Travis. It'd been a month of continuing to tour and head across America, just to end up right back in Kansas City. And that was exactly what she wanted.
He was shaping up to be an incredibly good friend. She was beginning to enjoy his presence, his glowing smile, his crinkled eyes, more and more. They were becoming a beacon of hope, a light through this darkness, a rainbow in this winter, a smile in her sadness. She was beginning to enjoy the fact that most of the time, there was always a good morning text waiting for her when she woke up. And he always picked her up from the airport - even if she got in really late at night or really early in the morning. He always asked her about the concerts, as if it were any normal job. As if she might have spoken at a conference or done a presentation or stood at the checkout of a shop all day. And she always asked about football, about whether they were feeling confident- even if she didn't always understand his answers.
