A lover and a dreamer. That's what Mistysnow always was. And she knew this well.

With cream ticked tortoiseshell fur that was always glossy and sleek, gleaming golden eyes and delicate white paws, Mistysnow was also the most desired she-cat of her tribe.

She knew that as well.

Mistysnow wanted a mate. It had been her dream since she was a mere apprentice; to find that special tom who would love her and treat her right, and worship the ground she walked on.

Yet, all the toms she used to date... no matter how hard she clung to the relationship, no matter how hard she loved them, they still left in the end.

Her friends had advised her to select a tom who would actually care for her, but their pleas and advice had fallen on deaf ears as Mistysnow was so desperate for love, she would take any tom she could get.

The wind, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth, whipped against her fur as she watched from the shadows of the elderberry bushes. Her heart pounded in her chest, a frantic rhythm against her ribs.

The afternoon sun painted the clearing in shades of gold, highlighting the sleek, silvery blue-grey fur of Stormcrash as she groomed herself.

The Bio had silvery fur and striking deep amber eyes, and she was brash, brave and seemed to be always smiling. Many didn't like her for her brashness and loud voice, but she was still happy being herself.

And yet, had been a moon since any cat saw her smile with any genuine joy.

A moon since Mistysnow's most recent mate Cardinalsting had confided in her about his past relationship with Stormcrash, painting her as a manipulative, gaslighting, egotistical monster who deceived him.

A moon since she had, in her lovestruck desire and desperation for a mate, agreed to be with him, and believed every word he said despite warnings from their tribemates.

A moon since she'd seen the sheer agony in Stormcrash's eyes when she realized Cardinalsting's affections were now directed at a cat many deemed better than her.

A moon since Mistysnow realised that Stormcrash genuinely wasn't the horrible she-cat Cardinalsting had painted her to be.

A moon of shame.

Mistysnow knew she had no right to be with Cardinalsting. He and Stormcrash had been together for moons, their love a story that used to be whispered in the wind.

But when Cardinalsting had come to her, his eyes filled with love and longing, confessing his love for her, Mistysnow had been swept away by a wave of emotions.

There was a spark between them, a connection that seemed destined. She had forgotten about Stormcrash, about the sorrow in her eyes, about the unspoken promises that had bound her to Cardinalsting.

She was desperate for love, and in return for satiating her own desperation she had watched a warrior so strong and brave crumble to a shell of her former self.

Now, watching Stormcrash from afar, Mistysnow felt a pang of guilt.

The stormy grey she-cat's grace, the way she moved with the confidence of a warrior, the quiet rage that lingered in her deep amber eyes, it all ripped at the beautiful Crystallo's heart.

The guilt gnawed at Mistysnow. She wanted to talk to Stormcrash so badly, to somehow apologize for the pain she had caused, to explain that she never intended to come between them.

But fear held her back. What if Stormcrash hated her? What if she lashed out and blamed her?

She supposed maybe she deserved it.
