Akshita's pov
My parents house has caught fire. Mummy is alone at home, Papa is in the office and bhai is out of the country. I hurriedly take an auto and try to call Papa and Aditya. But they aren't answering my calls.
My heart is throbbing in my mouth and with each passing time my fear is increasing. Sweat trickles down my forehead and coat my back. Oh God !! Please keep her safe. Please.
Quickly I reach home and witness a horrible sight. The balcony of my parents room has caught fire and the rest of the mansion looks fine. Our neighbour who called me rushes to me.
"I have called the fire brigade and they must be coming soon"
"But mummy, she must be in her room only what if something happened to her" Fear grips me and the only thing which is running in my mind at this moment is my mother's safety.
I scurry inside the house searching for her. I shout her name but didn't get any response in return and I am sure now that she is in her room. With fast steps I move towards her room but my steps halt seeing the flames on the threshold.
"Mummaaa...." I scream as loud as I could. "Mummaaaa"
I am in a dilemma neither can I stay here nor can I live her alone. She is my mother I can't leave her alone in this situation and I decide to do what my heart wants. Save my mother at any cost.
I rush to the store room to search for a shawl and a fire extinguisher which is always present in our home.
Wrapping the shawl around my body
I kick the door open as half of it has already burnt. Carefully I enter inside the room and my eyes wander around the room burning in fire. I spray the fire extinguisher around the room and search for her. Frustration curls through me not finding her in the room."Mummaaaaa" I yell her name again.
"Akshita" I hear her faint voice.
"Mumma where are you ?" I ask again turning off the knob of can to make sure there is some left in the can.
"Here--here" The voice is coming from the walk-in closet. Sprinting to the closet room I find her slumped in a corner of the room. Emptying the whole can in the room I subside the fire of the room. Seeing the way clear she comes to hug me tight murmuring something and my hands simply rubs her back to calm her ragging breathes. She trembles in my arm and cries hysterically.
"Mumma are you fine ?" Breaking the hug, I examine her for some injuries and she looks fine. Thankfully.
"Hmm" She hums silently crying.
"Can has been emptied and the fire is still spreading in the room. We have to be careful" I wrap the shawl around her.
"But this---"
"Just take it Mumma" My voice came out rough and she doesn't argue much.
Holding her body I guide her outside the closet room and as expected the room is still on fire. Shielding my mother I escort her towards the door. We were almost outside the room but seems like my luck isn't my favour today.
While passing through the threshold, the hem of my long anarkali suit catches fire making my heart drop in my stomach. I try to subside the flames with my hands but end up burning them. The fire starts to crawl up my knees but Mummy shoves the shawl on the hem of my suit and it works.
