Bittersweet

The ignorant smile of a child is one of the sweetest things you'll ever see.

The death of a loved one makes a person bitter as can be.

People are as precious as diamonds, and are sold like chopped meat.

Don't you see? Life is all bittersweet.

You said you'd stay forever. That you'd love her till your last day.

You left a week later. You said it was pointless to stay.

Words like "i love you" so carelessly thrown around.

And she has a bitter mind and sweet words, not a protest to be found.

The child wraps their arms around loved ones. But soon they'll be gone.

So ignorant of the world, playing on the lawn.

When the child finally understands death, he won't believe it's true

The world wouldn't take them. Not without a goodbye or two.

Look around and maybe you'll see.

All that sadness in your memory.

Is bittersweet to the last detail.

And breaks your heart without fail.
