[End of flashback]
The voices ran around his mind as his veins rushed with guilt again. He pressed his lips, put the can down and shakily ran his hand through his hair. Sweating. A symphony of emotions swamped through him, flooded within him so harshly.
'Your fault'
'COWARD!'
'WORTHLESS'
'LOSER'
He gripped his long hair tightly, knowing he had lost her, there is no way of getting her back, nothing can be done, it's all useless.
"Hey"
She spoke, one word which sounded like an angel's call out through his ear, pulling him out of the ruthless trickery of his brain. He tried to nullify his vulnerable body language and looked at her, slowly.
"It's not your fault."
She said calmly, looking at him, as a wave of emotions and chills ran over him. Dazed and staggered on what he heard, it's the last thing he thought he'd hear from her. Somehow, that only sentence brought some solace and warmth to his fragile soul, although he felt her words might not be real.
His head jolted at her instantly in astonishment, eyes brimming with water.
"Well not fully your fault, to be exact."
She continued while looking away as it's hard to look in those eyes. He wanted to oppose her.
"Nabi-ya-"
"It's your turn to listen." She cut him off as he accepted it, paying his full attention to her.
"That day...after an hour or so I fainted, after you left. Then, I woke up in a hospital bed, of course. I saw my parents crying vulnerably holding both my hands and brother too. They all felt relieved to see me finally awake, inquired on what happened. But I didn't answer. My barely-opened eyes roamed around the whole room first, they searched for someone else..." She said as he realized.
"They searched for you."
She spoke softly yet sadly as his skin tingled, feeling chills.
"But you were nowhere. I asked them 'where is Hyunjin?' But no one knew the answer to my question. After that the others came inside, again you weren't there. They cried with me, hugged me, tried to comfort me and everything, even they didn't knew where you were. The doctors said my injuries were severe, they hit me with iron rods, that even caused a fracture in my arm. Everyone was so mournful, my mother ranted so much she wanted to kill those kids."
"I was discharged after five days of treatment but it wasn't enough, I felt so...terrible inside." She said as some tears shed down of her eyes without realization, his did as well, watching at her in pity.
"Not only because I was beaten up, but...because you disappeared. Like you disappeared on that day too. I felt awful. I tried to deny it so much that there must've been a reason. He wouldn't do that. But then I got to know from the others that you came back, and did not speak a word. That surprised me. But what surprised me more was that nobody really believed when I said you ran away. None of them did at that time. And they told me "It has affected him too, he seems very depressed as well, I think you should talk to him." I was filled so much anger. 'I should talk to him?' I thought, you didn't even come to apologize and they wanted ME to talk to you? It felt so surreal I thought it was a dream for a second. I compelled against you then they started arguing with me, defending you. Then all the comfort turned into rebelling. At the end of the day they left me too. My world just crumbled apart in pieces right there at that point. I was left with nothing. I begun hating them more than you honestly."
