“Sure” Dutchess Germaine replied on my offer as she took the chest which contains a lump of gold coins and rare jewels. She placed it beside her name plate at the hazelnut oak desk.
She handles many branches across the kingdom. She almost placed every inn at every dukedom.Thats how powerful she is in the field of business and hospitality for tourism. She's no other than one of the twin Dutchess from the Geminise Dukedom. Sabi nila ang personality ng mga Gemini ay madalas outgoing at friendly. Not to mention they're social skills are exceptional. Kaya sila ang kilala sa pamamahala ng mga inn, pubs and other entertainment establishments that involves welcoming tourist or enganging social parties. Pero itong kaharap ko... parang hindi tinuruan ngumiti ng kahit peke manlang. In her 30s as an estimated age, with very little eye bags. Proof that she is a busy bee but can manage the load of crazy work. Her ash short hair and pale strawberry scarlet eyes are enough to intimidate you.
Kaya pinaghandaan ko ito. Dinampot ko ang kada kapal na mukhng matatagpuan ko para lang makatapak ako rito. But after showing this small chest her strict scary mood just vanished. Now my jaw dropped. I prepared many speeches and rebuttals for business negotiations and this is the only scene I'll get?!
“Wait. wait. You're allowing me to permanently stay at that place with no rental fees and claim the forest also as my personal property already?"
She nodded and took a sip of her tea. Still maintaining her calmness over my troubled reaction.
“ At pinapayagan mo din akong mai-access ang banana farm nyo as long as your brother-in-law agrees?”
She slowly nodded and raised her brows. “Is there something I didn't explain properly lady virgo?”
Oo! Ghaghow ka ba? Yung lupang yun?! Sakin na kaagad ng libre?! Isama mo na yung bahay na isa sa exclusive service ng inn nyo?! Are you out of your mind?!
I cleared my throat and sat straight to remain my poise against the battles of my thoughts of how dumb this girl is.
“Well we only save that place because of the buried treasure that even our ancestors failed to decode. At sagabal din panatilihin ang kalinisan nun kung bibihira lang naman ang pumunta doon dahil sa takot nila sa bukid na iyon. So it's a win for me if someone would take that place.”
“But you're allowing me to stay there for free?”
She nodded and mumbled that I couldn't quite understand the story behind it. “I prefer that than my head being split.”
Kumunit na lamng noo ko pero hindi na nagtanong pa at baka personal lamag iyon. I glanced at Sir Constantine and he immediately understood the order. He took an envelope from his satchel and placed it at the desk which caught Dutchess Germaine's pale strawberry eyes under her glasses.
“Is this bribery Lady Virgo?”
“Huh? This is for the rent. Galing yan sa ipon ko since this is already the last day for this month. I took the initiative, baka sakaling nakalimutan mo. I know we've agreed it's free But think of it as the last payment”
“Even if practicality tempts me to receive it, it's a no.” She insisted and fixed her glasses, then pushed away the envelope. “Someone already paid for it.”
“Did what?! W-who?! Why?! H-how?! W-w-when?!”
“I was forbidden to tell it, I apologize Lady Virgo.”
I was speechless as I could feel a whole rock was dropped at my head. Just to confirm if this is all true. Who would do such a thing?!
Mas b*bo ata sya. Wala akong naalalang kaibigan o malapit sa puso ni Lady Virgo that would be this generous. As far as i know there's only Sandra and Sir Constantine on the list. Imposibleng si Prince Zeus o kaya kahit si kuya. I don't really want to mention those as*holes pero wala rin naman silang alam sa lokasyon. The more you hide things the more accessible they are to be found out.
“To be frank with you, I quite admire you Lady Virgo. You're not stupid nor useless as the rumors appears. I apologize for my rudeness earlier.”
“I am offended earlier but im used to it. Thank you for the appreciation.”
“I must be the one thanking you Lady Virgo. This treasure was the one that cursed my ancestors. They've fought over this but all end up dying just to get the answers. Kaya gusto ko rin mahanap ang kasagutan at baka sakaling ito na ang maging daan para mawakasan na ang puno't dulo ng pagkasira sa pamilya ng nga ninuno namin. That may eventually end up happening to ours too. But I i too gave up and just lived ignoring that treasure. Now seeing it was solved not from my origin and was also returned here. It was a respectful act if i must say.” She stated with gratitude and gave a slight smile for a person who doesn't always express too much of emotion. Hindi OA tulad ng kasama ko.
Lumapit and assistant niya saamin at may pinaabot na dalawang papel kay Dutchess Germaine. “This is the contract for the legal receival of the land and house property. Ito naman ay mapa para puntahan ang lokasyon ng brother-in-law ko, si Duke Cragen. Which is the husband of my twin sister” she said and pointed at the red dot in the map.
“It takes 2 hours to get there as long there's no weather disruptions and here..” She added and after that she took something from her pocket. I held out my hand to receive it and there I realized it was a brooch with a cresent moon scarlet crystal.
“Show this to him and I'm sure he'll treat you as a friend of mine. Masungit yun kaysa sa akin so I'll apologize in advance for his rudeness Lady Virgo”
May isusungit pa pala siya sa iyo. You don't know what I felt when her brows raised. The way she crossed her arms as she examined me from head to toe the first moment I stepped in her office. Kaya itong pagtrato niya ngayon ay nakakapanibago.
“I'll make sure to bring this back safely”
She nodded and softened her brows. “I already trusted you enough to give this family heirloom.”
My pale sapphire eyes widened from the view of her smile. I held my heart, it was also overwhelmed. Being trusted like this really is something I'm very grateful about.
“Thank You..” I thanked as I wiped my tears off my eyes but still continued to shine a smile. I don't know why am I overreacting like this. As a person who was always ignored now was being recognized at one of the notable persons who has an eye of judgment. Hindi madaling makuha ang tiwala ng isang tao laluna sa mga taong nasa business field and from the owner itself. This is some sort of achievement for a person who was being called mindless and useless for her whole life. Lady Virgo, looks like your reputation will soon enough be eyed as honorable.
“Now I know why he treasures you..” Dutchess Germaine concluded
