Sabrina's POV

Eliza and I are first to attend our children.

The bear has been stopped by a bear trap, metal teeth sunk into it's hind leg as it claws for Noah, who's run head first into a tree in the dark, dizzy and fallen to her side, whimpering in pain.

Even out of range, the aggressive bear is still clawing for Noah, but he's too far away for his claws to snag her.

I can hear Jack moaning not far off, he sounds like he's in extreme pain and I see blood trails, I think he was dragged through the dirt.

Eliza pounces to him, screaming for Seth.

I shift next to Noah, picking her up in my arms and holding her cub form close to my chest as I feel shadows crash into the bear behind me.

When I turn, I see every Alpha sinking their teeth into the bear, Erebon ripping at it's neck with Orpheus on the other side. They try interrogating the bear, but the monster is staring right at me, seemingly smiling, its amber eyes glowing with an Awstone high. It's in no pain as it has chunks of flesh ripped out of its hide, but it still enjoys looking for my fear even while it's being mauled and ripped apart.

I just stare back, expressionless, not letting it have the satisfaction of seeing me cry.

I stand up with Noah and walk back to the fire pits. Many of the other healing wolves crowd around me, asking to help, checking and sniffing up to Noah. I take her straight to Becca and she comes with me, while Alice follows at my leg, holding my clothes and trying to give them to me.

But right now, I can't speak.

I feel Noah's got a bad headache, a bad bump, but other than that she has avoided further physical injury. Minus the mental trauma she just went through.

Noah's laid down on a couch and with Becca and all the other shewolves, they put their hands on Noah's cub head, healing her as a pack.

Her eyes open and she shifts back to little girl, tucked under a thick blanket, when she sees me she bursts into tears, "Mommy! Where is Jack, is he dead?" Noah gasps the question, "He protected me from the bear," as she's asking, the pack move away toward the crying young Alpha.

Jack is brought in by Seth, laid down on a cleared wooden table. His face is bleeding and his bone is jutting out of his skin, a badly broken arm. Snapped bones were the worst kind of injury for wolves to heal from.

"Give him Awstone," Eliza begs Seth, coming up beside him, "Enough to knock him out, now!" she grabs his arm as Seth hesitates. At first he shakes his head, wanting to deny it.

I see Erebon come up to them, covered in bear blood but holding out a bag of grey metallic Awstone. Seth eventually murmurs approval as they make Jack sniff it while the Betas move around the room, ushering everyone back to their rooms, telling us to leave and give them space for the operation.

Putting that bone back in place was going to be awful, even with the pain reliever.

"Mommy," Alice gives me my clothes and I thank her and take them, putting them on while Alice gives Noah a big hug.

But Noah is already wrapping herself in the blanket and standing up, walking toward Jack's table.

"Noah," I finish dressing and grab her hand, "No, this way now."

"No," Noah turns to me, shaking her head, "No, mom," she looks so serious, she has me dumbfounded as she turns and walks up to Jack, reaching for his limp and uninjured hand. She holds Jack's fingers for half a second before Erebon sees her and scoops her up. Noah screeches out, banging her fists against his back, "NOO! PUT ME DOWN!"
