I had panicked and thought I could find a place in the mortal realm to drop off my daughters, but I couldn't bare to leave Noah or Alice with strangers. So I opt for familiarity and safety. Natascha didn't expect me to show up at her doorstep at 5pm on a Monday, dropping my kids off. She asked if the Greywood had been a problem and I lied and said yes. Hoping she would avoid all contact with them.
I didn't want her asking questions for the next 24 hours at least. I just explained to her I needed time to figure out my future on my own so I needed help with the girls temporarily.
Of course, she agreed to help. I said I'd be back by tomorrow even though I knew that was also a lie.
Noah and Alice seemed to suspect something was wrong – probably because of the way I drove like a maniac out of Pisces House in the stolen vehicle.
Now that my girls were safe from me, I drive out into the country.
I knew Hans would be at his parent's country property, at least, that was where he'd likely be. When sick or injured, my mother-in-law was all over Hans. And he'd still be gravely injured – he had his guts ripped out five nights ago. But bears were tough, and he was too.
I park on the side of the highway on the outskirts of the small house, which was down a small dirt road, deep into a paddock that kept the house off the main highway.
The sun was setting and everything was yellow and orange. A beautiful afternoon to meet my end.
Up the dirt road I now walk down, I see multiple cars parked out front the house, visiting the property. I walk around the brick house to Hans' childhood bedroom.
I peak in and see him in bed, bandaged up and surrounded by tall family as they all talk with grave expressions on their faces.
The window is ajar and I can hear what they're saying.
I sit down in the grass and I listen, not so keen to just run in and hand myself over. Now that Erebon was safe and my girls were safe, I felt like I could slow things down and just be a little more patient. I had been consumed by panic, but now I am close enough to gather more intel, I can just breathe for a bit.
"Tell me!" Hans yells so loud I flinch, "The details."
"Hyde came back from his full scout not too long ago to gather those details... Hans, there's no body left. Nothing. Kramer was ripped apart," an older woman speaks with a husky tone, I think it's his aunt.
"Not Kramer. Her. I want to know about her!"
"Hans –"
"Where is she, where is my wife?" Hans sucks in a breath, before bursting into tears.
"My darling, why do you shed tears over Sabrina?" his mother asks, sounding truly perplexed, "She –"
"I wanted her here. Delivered to me. I need her."
"Kramer tried –"
"I want her alive," Hans whispers, I almost can't hear what he says next. I start to rise up a bit, but I hear footsteps circling around to the window and I duck back down quick. I hear him whispering something, growling too. But I can't make out the words.
"Shh," someone by the window hisses and everyone goes quiet, "We have... ah, an intruder," I look up and I see a middle-aged man I don't recognise with dilated pupils, looking right at me as he smashes a hand through the window, the glass cutting his arms, but he doesn't care as he grabs a fistful of my hair and yanks me up into view, "...wolf..." he grins, not showing any fear and not flinching from the cuts.
