As (Y/n) made her way to school, her breath visible in the cool air. As she approached the entrance to her apartment building, she spotted a familiar blond figure striding ahead of her.
"Tsukishima-kun!" she called out, quickening her pace to catch up to him.
Tsukishima continued walking, seemingly oblivious to her greeting. As (Y/n) drew nearer, she noticed the large headphones covering his ears, cutting him off from the outside world.
"Tsukishima-kun?" (Y/n) tried again, this time placing a hesitant hand on his shoulder.
Tsukishima whirled around, his expression hardening as his eyes landed on (Y/n). He yanked the headphones off, a scowl etched onto his face.
"What do you want?" he snapped, his tone clipped and abrasive.
(Y/n) recoiled slightly at his sudden change in demeanor, taken aback by the blatant hostility in his voice.
"I-I was just saying good morning," she stammered, her own smile faltering. "I didn't mean to bother you."
Tsukishima let out a derisive snort, his narrowed eyes boring into her. "Well, you just did. I'm trying to get to school, so don't waste my time."
With that, he turned on his heel and continued walking, his long strides putting distance between them.
(Y/n) stood rooted to the spot, her heart sinking. She had thought they were making progress in their relationship, but this sudden coldness from Tsukishima was a harsh reminder of the walls he had built around himself.
Forcing back the sting of tears, (Y/n) hurried to catch up, determined not to let Tsukishima's rudeness dampen her spirits. As they walked side by side, she could feel the tension radiating off him, his body language screaming for her to keep her distance.
"Tsukishima-kun, is everything okay?" she ventured tentatively, her voice laced with concern.
"Everything's fine," he huffed, his gaze fixed straight ahead. "Just leave me alone."
(Y/n) opened her mouth to respond, but the icy glare Tsukishima shot her way made the words die on her lips. Resigned, she fell into a sullen silence, her mind racing with questions about what could have possibly triggered such a drastic change in Tsukishima's demeanor.
As they neared the school gates, Tsukishima quickened his pace, leaving (Y/n) trailing behind. She watched his retreating figure, a pang of disappointment and hurt swelling in her chest.
Just when she thought they were making progress, Tsukishima had once again built up his walls, pushing her away with a vengeance. (Y/n) couldn't help but wonder what she had done to deserve such cold treatment, and whether she would ever be able to break through the icy barrier that surrounded the enigmatic blond.
Tsukishima had always been wary of emotional entanglements. He prided himself on his rational, detached approach to life, believing that love and relationships were nothing more than distractions that would only lead to heartbreak.
As he walked away from (Y/n), his headphones firmly back in place, Tsukishima couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt for his harsh treatment of her. Despite his best efforts, there was something about her genuine kindness and unwavering positivity that had slowly been chipping away at the carefully constructed walls around his heart.
