"Danny," Jordan said quietly. He shook my shoulder, waking me from my very uncomfortable sleep. "The game is about to start."
"Quelle heure est-il?" I asked, blurry eyed and dazed. I sat up and put my shirt back on, Jordan putting my glasses on my face. I saw that he had bags under his eyes and a sad look to his usually bubbly and cute face. I looked to Jake, seeing him passed out and his chest slowly rise and fall.
"You know I don't speak French," Jordan replied to me, standing me up. He looked to my feet, grabbing me and hugging me tightly. I gladly accepted the hug, for I was freezing and he was quite warm. I felt safe in his arms, never wanting to leave.
"Let's go, guys," Jirard yelled. Tony shot up to his feet in a blind panic, grabbing his robotic right hand and connecting the sensors. Everyone was waking up and heading to the office, including Suzy who seemed lost in Hell. Well, we all were.
Jordan and I made it to the office behind Tom and Matt. Mark had fallen asleep in the office chair with his hands on his stomach and his head rolled back, loud snores coming from him.
"Mark, buddy," Matt said, making him jump and snort as he woke. He looked around to us as Suzy and Tony walked in. He rubbed his eyes and stood.
"Almost game time?" Mark asked.
"Sadly, yes," I said. Jirard suddenly slammed his hands on the desk, making the six of us jump. Tony stumbled in and looked around with wide eyes.
"Listen up," Jirard barked. "Tonight is going to be harder than last and if we want to survive the night and not be kidnapped by Ian and Austin, then we need to step it up a notch. Everyone needs to be doing something, Suzy included."
"Well, some of us already have something to do." Jirard looked to Tom and nodded.
"We have to have someone playing 'yes or no' with Jake," Matt spoke up. "Jirard and I need someone to go with us if they don't already have something to do."
"I can go, Suzy can take my place by the vent," Tony said, looking to the only girl in the office. She looked to Jirard and then to Mark, preparing for the worst. "I mean, if you're okay with that."
"I think I can handle it," she said, unsure of herself. "As long as I get the easy stuff because I don't think I could..."
"Say no more, Suzy," Matt said. "You can check-mark the list I'll be making for the first hour." Suzy nodded, pushing and playing with the curls at the end of her hair.
The lights went out around us. The sound of backup generators kicking on hummed and sputtered, the light above us turning on alongside the fan on the desk. Matt stepped away from the desk and sighed. The fan issue was a thing.
The phone began to ring, so Mark pressed the speaker button. Jake's recording began to play. Matt began to dig through the drawers, pulling out a pen and pad of paper.
"Ah...hello, hello! Uh, see, I told you your first night wouldn't be a problem. You're a natural!" Mark rolled his eyes. Matt began scribbling down questions as he listened.
"Those newer models would always get disoriented with bright lights. It would cause a system restart, or something. Uh, come to think of it, you might want to try that on any room where something undesirable might be. It might hold them in place for a few seconds. Blind them, stun them." I looked at Suzy. "But be careful, it could damage the models and you may have to pay for that one way or another." Jake's voice stabbed me. I had flashed my light at Arin, possibly hurting him.
"One more thing - don't forget the music box. I'll be honest, I never liked that puppet thing. It was always...thinking, and it can go anywhere...I don't think that little remote start can hold him back for long. Nor the partner. If they haven't already gotten you."
"What does that mean?" Jordan asked to no one in particular.
"Anyway, I'm sure it won't be a problem. Uh, have a good night, and talk to you tomorrow. Ian-no, wait!-" and that was the end of that. The call ended and we were all still.
"Let's go, guys," Matt said, leading Jirard and Suzy out of the office. Tom dropped to his position at the front of the desk as Tony and I slid to the vents and Jordan braved the hallway, making sure the three others got out safely.
Mark took control of the tablet as I ducked into the vent. Arin was sitting at the other end, glaring at me in the dim light. His eyes were dimmed down, the lights damaged somehow. What if I had actually hurt him?
"They're grabbing little bouncy balls from the Prize Counter y the pocket full," Mark announced. "How's the time, Tom?"
"I've been keeping it well," he replied. I looked back to him, seeing him rub his eyes before tapping away once more. "Just a bit worried about what Jake said."
"Don't worry, Tom," Tony said. They looked at each other and Tom nodded. I looked back in the vent to see Arin, but I was too late. He grabbed my wrist and dug his nails into my flesh, pulling me into the vent.
I screamed, hurting our ears, and tried to grab for Jordan. However, he was distracted with trying to blind an already eyeless human, Dodger. I saw him getting pulled out of the office just as Arin pulled me into the other room, closing the vent register after I fell onto the floor.
"Danny!" I heard Tony yell. I was focused on Arin grabbing my arms and picking me up. I tried to look back at him, but he forced me into the wall. I felt my body jolt and my cheek was met with a few children's drawings.
"You make everything fun," Arin yelled at me, crushing me against the wall. I went to scream again, but he spoke again. "You make us work harder to burst your skull and watch your brains fall out like a piñata!"
I could tell it wasn't the real Arin. His voice sounded too dark, like he was angry at Ross and was taking it out on everyone else while being possessed by the Devil. It was gravely, two-toned, and horrifying. Plus I could feel him eyeing my neck and throat, like he was going to rip out my esophagus. Why that felt so familiar was escaping me, but it seemed like it had happened before.
"You can't escape me now, Daniel." I whimpered. "You're staying with us forever!"
"Stop it!" Suzy screamed, a sudden mass of bouncy balls thrown at him. Some hit me, but it was nothing compared to being crushed. I feared becoming the next Springtrap.
Arin backed off of me and turned to Suzy, bearing his teeth and growling. She yelped, running into the office. Arin stormed out of the room, giving me time to undo the register and crawl back into the office. I slid to Mark, grabbing my flashlight in the process, and ducked behind the desk. I looked down to see bouncy balls rolling around and towards me.
Suzy slid onto the floor next to me. She was scrambling to collect the bouncy balls at Mark's feet as he stood, jumping the desk and running towards who I assume was Arin. Suzy looked at me and then back to her dress bottom which was filling with different coloured rubber spheres. She was gone in a flash, leaving me there. I sat up, looking past the desk to see Mark running down the hall and socking Joey in the jaw with his elbow before turning the corner.
I took the tablet from the desk and flipped the cameras, finding Mark hop on the stage and pull Jon off of Jirard and kick Dodger in the face to get her away from Suzy. I felt my heart drop as soon as I heard Jordan scream out my name, agony in his breath and a pain of guilt surging through my veins.
I looked up. Jordan looked back at me. Tom and Tony were barricading the vents. We looked to the front hall, the top half of Tucker Boner crawling towards us in a surprisingly high speed. His nails were like daggers, for we could see them breaking the tiles as he came towards us. The bottom half of him was missing and was spilling blood onto the floor. Jordan stepped back, falling into the desk. I grabbed his shirt and pulled him over, falling to the floor just as the lights went out and the bells above us rang and chimed.
We peered around the desk, grabbing onto each other. There was no Tucker, no blood, and no chips in the tiles. Tom and Tony looked just as scared as we did, staring at the same blank spot we were. I could vividly remember him with no eyes, a black and white striped tank top, and a grin that made my blood boil.
Tom figured out who was in the box: Jericho. Our friend.
