Karlyle was discharged from the hospital one week later. His physical condition improved on the second day, but Ash insisted on staying in the hospital to be sure for the week. Ash wasn't the only person worrying about him. It was truly unbelievable, everyone around Karlyle cared about him.
The most unexpected person among them is his mother.
"You seem to have similar symptoms to me, so figs should suit your taste."
After he collapsed and she heard the truth from Luther, from then on, Alice has temporarily delegated all his work to Kyle and Jonathan. He has never spent time this long with his mother, so he only listens to her in awkwardness.
"I understand."
"You don't have to stop exercising. However, reduce it and ask your husband to support you."
Alice's expression is as cold as his. From outsiders' view, if they don't know what they're talking about, it'd look like Alice is scolding him. But it's fortunate that Alice maintains that expression. Spending time alone with his mother is already too unfamiliar to him.
".....Is it alright if I don't work?"
"Of course. John will take care of it. Besides, isn't it time for your brother to shoulder the burden of what you've been doing?"
Then Alice takes a look around the house full of organized moving items. Ash suggested moving house. He said they should have their own home, not his mother's or Karlyle's house, but a new house of their own where they could live with their child.
Ash still harbors guilt, but at the same time, he's been busy trying to figure out how to design their new home. It's rare to see Ash so happy, Karlyle has no choice but to let him do it. Though he's worried that Ash is overexerting himself.
It's amazing that so many things have changed at once. The news of his pregnancy, which he thought would sound terrible, became a surprising story. Each person had a different reaction. Claude and Yvonne suggested they come to their French villa with the child. However, his mother and father seemed sad to hear that, so they are in the middle of adjustment for now.
Natalie pledged to make the best nutritious food everyday for him as she had the experience cooking for Clark during pregnancy. And Aiden, he rashly bought all the baby products, so much that Karlyle had to make him refund them.
Kyle's reaction was ambiguous. When he heard about the danger, he openly showed his hostility towards Ash, and Karlyle had to quiet him down. For Nicholas, he congratulated them on opening the path of hardship ahead.
"I know you are uncomfortable."
Looking around the house, Alice says.
"I act like a mother all of a sudden. I don't know about Jonathan, but I know I'm not a good mother."
Karlyle listens in silence. It's true that he's surprised by his mother's change, and he doesn't know how to comfort her as everyone would do. Alice turns around.
"Still, I congratulate you from the bottom of my heart."
Alice says, her hand touches the fig basket she brought with her and stands up.
"I will tell Mr. Jones things that he needs to pay attention to. Don't overdo yourself."
"Thank you."
"When morning sickness is severe, ask others for help. Don't feel guilty."
He can see shyness in Alice's eyes. She must be embarrassed as she never said things like that before. Slightly furrowing, she turns around.
