Blake was supposed to be used to getting up early. All her life, the rooster crow of her alarm had been the unwelcome soundtrack to her mornings. It was a necessary evil to secure the bathroom and avoid a pre-dawn fight with her siblings. But doctor life, even intern life, was a whole new level of ungodly hours. So when a cacophony of shouts shattered the fragile peace of her sleep that morning, Blake was beyond grumpy. This had been a far too frequent occurrence in her new home.
Hurling herself out of bed, Blake stumbled toward the source of the noise, her sleep-mussed hair a halo around her face. Pushing open the door, she was greeted by the sight of Izzie and George.
"You know what? It's not a big deal," Izzie declared, her voice laced with mock sympathy. "You don't have to lie, I get it, you have needs." She offered a smile to George, who stood there looking like a deer caught in headlights.
Blake raised a skeptical eyebrow. "What is going on out here?" she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep.
"Nothing!" George blurted out, a touch too quickly, betraying his obvious discomfort.
Izzie, unable to contain herself any longer, burst into a fit of giggles. "Nothing..." she echoed, dragging out the word for dramatic effect.
As George walked away from the three women, Izzie explained, "He's freaked out 'cause I caught him playing with little Jimmy and the twins." Blake's eyes widened at that. She wasn't expecting that. She didn't know what she was expecting, but definitely not that.
"I have a girlfriend," George defended himself, his voice a touch higher than usual.
Blake flashed him a reassuring smile. "We know you do, George. It's okay if you still want to have some... fun ... alone ," she said, glancing at Izzie who was biting her lip to keep from bursting out laughing. George's face turned beet red.
