chapter fourteen
breaking through the lies
The air of the locker room hung heavy as Izzie slammed her locker shut. "He peed on my bed. My bed, Meredith," she declared, her voice laced with exasperation. Doc lay sprawled at Meredith's feet, oblivious to the drama he'd caused.
"And he figured out how to open doors," Blake chimed in, her voice a touch high-pitched. "It's creepy? Using the bathroom and suddenly having a dog staring back at you."
"He's our dog," Meredith shrugged it off, running a hand through her hair. Izzie, Blake, and George had brought Doc to the hospital, not wanting to leave him at home to tear up the couch or more laundry like he had done to the last load.
"No, he's not my dog," George protested as he put his pager in his scrub pants pocket. "You two bought him without even asking me. Or Blake!"
"Don't bring me into this," Blake said defensively. "I just don't want him invading my privacy."
"We rescued him from certain death," Meredith said. She didn't want to give up Doc. He was her comfort dog, her dog that was supposed to make her get over McDreamy. "Come on, you guys," she pleaded, putting on her best puppy dog eyes.
George crossed his arms, his jaw set. "I'm putting my foot down. Either the dog moves out, or I do."
Blake's eyes widened. Their shared house was a constant test of patience, but the thought of losing George was far worse. They may not have been best friends, but a comfortable routine had settled in, and she secretly cherished their shared space.
"Foot down now," George continued, his voice firm. "Me or the dog, which is it?"
Meredith's gaze darted between George and Doc, a silent battle raging within her.
"You hesitated," George exclaimed, his voice laced with disbelief. "She hesitated!" He complained to Izzie and Blake.
"You hesitated?" Izzie whisper-yelled at Meredith.
