Chapter 4

Tamra stepped through the door of the large white building. She went into the elevator and pushed the button to the second floor. The ride to the second floor seemed like forever as her mind wandered off to Karl as she thought about what he would do to her later that day because she diverted and decided to see Ava instead of going directly to the doctor's office as planned. She imagined the blows she would get and thought about a way to prevent feeling the pain that she would encounter. After seconds of searching her brain, she came up with nothing.

The elevator's long ding brought her back to the present as she slowly stepped out with Zyon.

As she entered the reception area she stopped to admire the fishes in the aquarium like she normally does. She smiled to herself then her smile was halted as she noticed that one of the goldfish was missing. She noticed because he was the only one in the aquarium with a white scale over one of its eyes, making him unique. Poor thing, he must have died, Tamra thought to herself. She looked down at Zyon and smiled, she couldn't help but kiss him on the cheek. He was the only thing that was right in her life and in that moment she wished that she could be able to live to see him grow into a man.

As she walked off, she was greeted by a bright smile from Kay. She was the receptionist for her doctor and had been for quite some time.

"Tamra, it's so good to see you. Hi Zyon!" she said as she leaned over the top of the counter to see him.

" Hi Kay, I'm here for my appointment with Doctor Daye," she smiled.

Kay sighed as she looked at her.

" I'm sorry Tamra but Doctor Daye died a month ago. I'm so sorry that we didn't inform you but with everything that has been going on we're just informing his patients as they come in" she explained.

Tamra was in shock. Doctor Daye had been her doctor for as long as she could remember and she was deeply saddened by his passing as she stood there in disbelief. Kay noticed the change in her body language immediately.

" Come, sit down and I'll get you some water," she said.

Tamra took a drink of the water from the bottle and then took a deep breath.

" How did he die?" she asked in a low voice.

Kay sighed. " He died peacefully in his sleep".

Tamra looked over at Zyon and she felt an emptiness in the pit of her stomach. First, it was her favourite fish in the aquarium and now her doctor. Kay patted her thigh and then continued.

" We have a new doctor who took over after Doctor Daye's passing. Do you want to see him? His name is Doctor Archer."

After a few seconds, Tamra nodded her head. She already had the appointment and she was already there so she thought that she should just go ahead. With the death of her doctor, she would need a new doctor anyway and this was the perfect opportunity to see if she would be comfortable with this new doctor.

Kay smiled and sent her in.

Tamra entered the familiar office. She closed the door and turned around to face the doctor who stood to shake her hand.

"Good day Doctor Archer" she smiled. " My name is..."

"Tamra Carter," he said with enthusiasm.

It was a bit strange that he knew her name but then she thought that he must have seen it in the system as her appointment was scheduled some time ago.

"Yes," she replied politely.

He was smiling at her as if they were familiar.

"You don't remember me do you?".
