Lando's POV

The team event was in full swing, a lively affair designed to celebrate the start of the new season. Drivers, engineers, team members, and their families mingled, the atmosphere charged with excitement and camaraderie. I navigated through the crowd, exchanging pleasantries and catching up with familiar faces. But there was one person I couldn't stop looking for.

Jennifer Piastri.

I'd seen her a few times over the past days, always with Oscar or chatting with others in the paddock. Each time, I felt that same pull, an inexplicable urge to know her better. Tonight, I was determined to finally have a proper conversation with her, despite Oscar's warnings.

I spotted her near the buffet, picking through a tray of hors d'oeuvres. She looked up as I approached, her eyes lighting up with recognition.

"Hey, Jennifer," I said, trying to keep my tone casual.

"Hi, Lando," she replied smiling. "Enjoying the party?"

"Yeah, it's great. Nice to unwind a bit before the real madness starts," I said, grabbing a plate and joining her in selecting food.

"I bet," she said, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "So, do you always attend these events, or is this a special occasion?"

"It's pretty standard, but it's always nice to have everyone together," I said glancing around the room. "What about you? How are you finding your first F1 event?"

"It's been incredible," she said, her enthusiasm evident. "Everything is so exciting and fast-paced. It's a whole different world."

"I'm glad you're enjoying it," I said sincerely. "Oscar must be thrilled to have you here."

"He is," she said, her smile softening. "We've always been close, but this feels like a new chapter for us."

There was a warmth in her voice when she talked about Oscar, and I could see how much she cared for him. It made me admire her even more. We found a spot at one of the tables and sat down, continuing our conversation.

"So, what made you decide to take a gap year." I asked, genuinely curious.

She sighed, leaning back in her chair. "I felt unfulfilled with university. I needed a change, something to shake things up. And when Oscar suggested I join him on the circuit, it just felt right."

"I can understand that" I said, nodding. "Sometimes you need to step away to figure out what you really want."

"Exactly," she said, her eyes meeting mine. "What about you? Did you always know you wanted to be an F1 driver?"
"Pretty much," I said, laughing. "Ever since I was a kid, it's been my dream. I started karting when I was seven, and I've never looked back."

"It must be amazing, living your dream," she said, a hint of longing in her voice.

"It is," I admitted. "But it's also a lot of hard work and sacrifice. There are times when it's tough, but the thrill of racing itself makes it all worth it."

We talked for hours, our conversation flowing effortlessly. She was easy to talk to, her curiosity and genuine interest making it feel like we'd known each other for much longer. We shared stories about our families, our dreams and fears. It was the kind of conversation that made you lose track of time.

At one point, the music changed to a slower tune, and people started pairing off to dance. I stood up and held my hand out. "Would you like to dance?"

She looked surprised but pleased. "I'd love to."

We moved to the dance floor, and I gently pulled her close. As we swayed to the music, I couldn't help but feel a connection, something deeper than just physical attraction. There was a comfort in her presence, a sense of understanding that I hadn't felt with anyone else.

"I'm really glad we got to talk tonight," I said softly, looking into her eyes.

"Me too," she replied, her gaze unwavering. "I feel like I made a new friend."

"Definitely," I said, my heart pounding. "A very special friend."

As the song ended, we reluctantly stepped apart. I knew I had to tread carefully, mindful of Oscar's warning, but I couldn't ignore the growing feelings I had for Jennifer. She was special, and I wanted to get to know her better, despite the complications it might bring.

As the evening wound down, I walked Jennifer back to where Oscar was waiting. He raised an eyebrow as he saw us together but didn't say anything. I gave him a nod, hoping he'd understand that I respected his wished, even if my heart was pulling me in a different direction.

"Thanks for the dance, Jennifer," I said, smiling.

"Thank you, Lando," she said, her eyes lingering on mine. "I'll see you around?"

"Definitely," I said, feeling a warmth in my chest. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight," she replied, her smile lighting up the room.

As I walked away, I couldn't help but feel that this was just the beginning. The start of something new and exciting, something that could change everything.
