Oberyn could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

King's Landing had never been a favorite place for him to visit in the past. He enjoyed his travels, to be sure, but the Red Keep was not necessarily one he would return to time and time again unless it was vital.

Not only was it a structure that did not boast great beauty but the last time he had been there was for Elia's wedding. It was a somber memory for it reminded him once more of his sister and the husband who had been her doom.

However, it also brought with it the memory of when he truly met Cassandra for the first time. At the thought, he glanced at her from across their chambers where she was seated at their vanity humming to herself as she removed the jewelry she was wearing.

While his mind had been on her since the events of the tourney at Storm's End, meeting her on the streets of Flea Bottom where she punched a man was the first time they truly spoke. Meeting her at the godswood was the second, a chance meeting on all accounts.

Even if he despised being back in the Red Keep for all the painful memories it dredged up, he was thankful that he was here with Cassandra, the woman he had once only longed for from afar, now as his wife.

"Darling, a little assistance?" Cassandra called out lovingly, interrupting him of his thoughts of her as she turned to him expectantly.

Oberyn turned away from the hearth to approach her as she stood and turned her back to him, revealing what it was she needed from him.

"Of course, dearest." Oberyn answered, knowing already what she intended for him to do. It was a wonder that one could know another as intimately as they did, to know what the other meant to say without needing the words to be said aloud.

His fingers reached out to unlace the intricate loops that held her dress together. He took his time as he made sure to untie all knots, revealing bit by bit her porcelain skin.

Once he had done so, he pressed a soft reverent kiss to her smooth back, holding back a smug smirk at the shudder that ran through her body as he did.

Taking a step back, he watched appreciatively as she fully removed the dress, revealing her bare body to him in the flame's glow.

There was no longer any need for shyness between them, not when they had spent countless days and nights memorizing every part, every trace, and every mark on each other's body. No one knew them as much as the other.

His gaze stayed on her as she slipped into the carved tub filled with warm water, a sigh escaping her lips at the therapeutic feel of the warm water on her skin.
