Chapter 4
I opened the door and in came Casey; he was by best friend and always would be. Today Casey was wearing striped shorts and a pink polo top. You had to love Casey; he was one of those people that always knew what to do and would always help you out if you ever needed anything. This afternoon we were going out to a club. It would be my first legalised journey there, not to say I hadn’t snuck in before. But first we were headed to get my ID and to take my driving test. I was excited and couldn’t wait to get my P’s. Casey had turned 18 seven months ago, and already had his driver’s licence.
Casey handed me a little box, wrapped in blue and white paper. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!” he exclaimed in his singsong voice. I took the small box, and opened its wrapping carefully, making sure not to rip the beautiful paper. Opening the box inside the wrapping I saw a beautiful necklace, a small silver butterfly was attached to the winding chain. I took out the piece of intricate jewellery and Casey took it from my hands and wrapped it around my neck and clipped together the chain. It sat just below the indentation where the throat meets the chest. Casey always bought me amazing things; that was one of the perks of having a gay best friend.
“I love it,” I said back to him whilst giving him a massive hug. “Come in to the kitchen,” I said “I want you to meet my grandparents.”
“In a minute,” he replied, “But first I have something for you.” With this he pulled something out of his back pocket and handed it to me. I thought it was a card, but it was the wrong shape. So I took it out of the envelope and I saw Casey’s messy yet delicate writing.
Skye,
Happy Birthday! I cannot believe it is finally here. We can finally go out to cool places and have a drink together. It is nearly time for us to go to London together. I can’t wait for all the shopping. I thought that this might come in handy. Flip it over and you will see. I love you (just as a friend, you know I like guys…)

I flipped over the note and discovered it was a P plate for my car. I knew it was a present, but I couldn’t think why he had got it for me. Casey had already bought me a necklace, and we were always buying each other silly little things. I grinned anyway, because I knew I was going to get my license today. I guess Casey saw my gesture and laughed in his contagious way.
“Let’s go meet your grandparents then.” Casey smiled and linked my arm with his. And as we marched into the kitchen I couldn’t get the grin off my face.
