Hot shot was going to be in the hospital for sometime. He was unaware of how long. He just found out he has a type of brain cancer. He has been in the hospital for about three weeks. Hot shot was sometimes feeling alone and sad sometimes. He was wondering when he could go home. Hot shot saw his child life specialist Skylar come into the room.
"Good morning Hot shot how are you today?" Skylar asked.
"Okay I guess," Hot shot said. "I am worried about my cancer, I am worried if I caught it from someone else and if someone can catch it from me," he said.
"Don't worry you didn't catch your cancer and you can't give someone cancer either," Skylar said.
"Well that's a relief," Hot shot said. "My head isn't as sore as it was in the past few days," he said.
"That's good," Skylar said. "I brought somethings for you," she said.
"You did?" Hot shot said.
"Yes these are special things," Skylar said. She showed Hot shot a string with his name spelled out in beads. "This is for you beads of courage," she said. "Here some of the beads for what happened in the hospital as of late, these are for your MRIs, this one is for your surgery, this one is for your diagnosis, this is for getting your port placed and these are for your overnight stays." she said.
"Cool," Hot shot said and with Skylar's help he put the beads on one by one. "There I have a few beads," he said.
"Yes you do and you are going to get more as treatment goes on," Skylar said.
"Oh okay," Hot shot said.
"This is a chemo duck and this one is yours," Skylar said handing over the chemo duck. "This one has a port just like you," she said. She showed him how the tube came on and off. "Chemo duck has cancer just like you and is going to help you learn about your treatment," she said.
"Cool," Hot shot said. Hot shot loved his chemo duck it was nice and soft. Hot shot was happy to have his chemo duck.
Hot shot soon saw a nurse come in. Her name was Ellie. "Okay Hot shot we are going to remove your staples today," Ellie said.
"Is it going to hurt?" Hot shot asked.
"No it won't hurt, but you will feeling a pulling sensation," Ellie said.
"Okay," Hot shot said.
Hot shot went to another room and there a doctor began to remove the staples. Hot shot stayed still for it and held on to Roxy the rhino. He didn't like the pulling sensation too much but he was staying as still as possible. "Was that the last one?" Hot shot asked.
"Yes that was the last one," the doctor said. "You did very well," he said.
"Thanks," Hot shot said. He was glad that was over. He was wondering what was going to happen next. Hot shot then got a bead.
"This is for getting your staples removed," Skylar said. "You did a very good job," she said.
"Thanks," Hot shot said. Hot shot placed the bead on the string. He was happy to have a new bead. Hot shot was wondering what he was going to do today.
Hot shot was taken to get a check up. He was busy with check ups, and tests at the moment. These things were done to help him get ready for treatment. Hot shot didn't enjoy that too much at all.
Hot shot was wondering when he was going to start his treatment too. He also had to go get his simulation scan done too. Hot shot was kind of nervous about it. Hot shot was wondering what to expect.
He was seeing Dr. Lopez at the moment. "Okay, Hot shot things are looking good so far and you will have your simulation scan done today," Dr. Lopez said.
