Tatiana looked at Avaluna in disbelief. To be completely honest, she didn't even understand how her sister had managed to hide such a big thing from their family for the past ten years. Not to mention that dropping one big news after another truly wasn't something that should be done.
"What the fuck do you mean you're pregnant and engaged?" Tatiana asked, still wondering if she had just misheard what her sister had said.
"Well, you see, Tatia, when two human beings, a female and a male, decide that they love each other very much and feel like they're ready for the next step, they proceed to spend some intimate time with each other which results in kisses and touches that then can lead to the consequences of a foetus being produced," Avaluna responded sarcastically. Tatiana just stared at her sister with disgust visible in her facial expression. Lucette shared the same expression as her as they both had to listen through their sister's attempt to explain something that the two of them already knew very well.
"I'm not talking about that!" She exclaimed while waving her hand in the air to try and stop Avaluna from talking. "I'm talking about how you've apparently managed to be in a relationship for ten years without anyone knowing about it!" Tatiana continued. In her defence, being unable to comprehend the fact that her oldest sister is in a relationship felt very valid to her, especially in today's society where almost anything can be revealed with a bit of digging.
Tatiana observed the way her sister let out an exasperated sigh. "Really, Tatiana? It's quite easy to hide things when people are being willfully blind. I've been soft-launching and not even trying to hide that I am dating someone for years. You all are just so damn blind and busy with your own lives that you all just refuse to put the pieces together. Besides, private but not a secret was the approach both me and Eddy wanted to take."
"Good for you." Was all Lucette said before she pushed her chair away from the table to most likely head back towards her bedroom? Sometimes, Tatiana wished that she had been an only child. Her sisters tended to often give her more stress than necessary. Not even her high school years had managed to give her the same amount of stress that both Lucette and Avaluna gave her.
"You dumb nincompoop!" Her mother, Melisa, screamed into the phone. Her mother had just walked into the dining room with her phone pressed to her ear. She was occupied in a phone call that had managed to raise her mother's blood pressure and caused her patience to disappear.
"How stupid could you be if you thought that would work." Her mother sarcastically said before she hung up on the call. Tatiana's mother let out a sigh as she dragged one of the chairs out to sit on. Her mother still managed to look beautiful despite the years having passed by and her age slowly creeping up around the corner.
"Rough day?" Tatiana asked, grimacing as she noticed the glare her mother sent her way.
"More like rough people that are incapable of using the intelligence they're supposed to have inherited from their parents," Melisa muttered, taking a cookie from one of the plates that were placed on the table.
"Did you hear that Avaluna apparently is both pregnant and engaged?" Tatiana wondered, wanting to know if there was anyone who even knew about Edward Constantine.
"Honey," Her mother started, tilting her head to the side while raising one of her eyebrows as if to contemplate whether her daughter was an idiot or not. "While the pregnancy certainly is recent news, the fact that your sister is engaged to the young Constantine heir definitely isn't. I've known about their relationship for the past nine years."
Tatiana gaped at her mother, ignoring her father's poor attempt at hiding his laughter and her sister's 'I told you so' expression that was burrowing itself into the side of her face.
"What do you mean you've known about that for the past nine years?!"
"My little princess, I'm your mother. You really think any daughter of mine would be able to hide a relationship for so long? Do you see me as a fool?" Melisa answered, rolling her eyes before she took a bite of the cookie.
"This family makes me want to commit first-degree murder on myself," Tatiana muttered as she stood up from the table to walk away from the disastrous conversation. Her parents and sister's laughter could be loudly heard from behind her as she walked out of the dining room, silently berating herself for being so self-absorbed and busy with her own relationship drama to even be able to pay attention to her sisters' love lives.
