A stranger of the dark

We walked for another hour that seemed to last for ever. Over the horizon you could see the sun going lower and lower as night was about to take over.

"I'm starting to get kinda tired, Maddie, lets look for a place to stay tonight", Alexander said.

"Okay, we are almost there just a little further Ya'll", I instructed.
We soon came to a small city that reminded me of my home town.
"Let's look around for a place to sleep we are losing daylight", I said to the group.
I scanned the area and all I could see was little patches of fire and cars crushed together that I figured were the efforts for people trying to leave town.
"Maddie look the front door is open", Fritz said pointing to a nice blue color house.
"Let's go inside", I said.
We all walked to the entrance and through the front door.
It was a nice house that I knew was our last resort to sleep tonight.
When we walked in to our right was a living room with a tv and a couch and to your left was a closet than at the end of the hall was a kitchen and a stair case leading upstairs.
We were all tired so we slugged up the stair case happy to be able to sleep.
There were at least 3 bed rooms.
"Anna, me, and Ava will take this bed room, Mike and Alex you guys take this one. Fritz and Kate take that one", I said.
With out saying good night everyone went in to there rooms.
Anna could not last another moment standing up so as soon as we entered the room she fell on the floor.
In the corner of the room was a comfy chair that almost called my name so I went over and laid in it.
Ava laid on the bed.
I fell asleep.
Then something poked me.
"Maddie...wake up...", the voice said.
I opened my eyes to see Mike staring at me.
I jumped.
"God, don't get so close to my face, Mike", I said.
"Sorry but I think something is down stairs", Mike said.
I got up feeling the lack of sleep take over my body.
I pinched myself to try to stay awake.
I got up and walked with Mike to the bedroom door.
"Wait", I stopped.
"What is it?", he asked.
"Anna's got a knife",.
"Get it",.
"Okay hold up",.
I tip toed to Anna's body and knelt down to try to find the sharp object.
I checked her left pocket.
Nothing.
Then her right.
I felt it. I slowly tried to pull it out trying not to wake her. When I finally pulled it out.
I met Mike back by the door.
"You got it?", Mike asked.
"Yea lets go", I said.
We both continued out the door into the pitch black dark hall way.
My eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness.
"You hear that?", Mike asked.
"Hear what?", I asked.
CLIP CLOP CLIP CLOP!
"Foot steps", I said in a whisper.
"Yea but from who or what?", Mike asked.
Me and Mike found the stair case and creeped down one step after another.
At the bottom step was the kitchen.
The moon light was our only light that showed through the window.
"Holy..", Mike commented.
"What?",.
"Who is that, by the window",.
Mike pointed to a tall figure standing at the window that seemed to be looking at the moon.
"Hello?", I said to the figure.
The figure looked at me than back at the moon.
"I said who goes there", I called.
The figure ignored me.
"I will look for a light switch", Mike suggested.
Mike left me in complete darkness.
I stood on the bottom step waiting.
"Found it", mike exclaimed flipping the switch.
The light blinded my eyes causing the figure to get startled. The figure got up from his spot and started to run to the entrance.
"Mike, get the front door", I called.
Mike ran to the front door blocking the stranger from leaving.
I stood behind the stranger and mike was in the front.
"Tackle him!", Mike called.
With that both me and mike jumped on the figure trying to hold him down.
I grabbed the knife aiming for the hand.
Mike was biting his leg.
I hit the hand with the knife causing the stranger to scream.
I knew we had won.
I grabbed the knife out of his hand and told mike to stop biting him.
"Stranger, I am sorry that me and my parter here hurt you but it was only self defense to protect him", I said softly.
"I am sorry I broke in to your house please let me go", the strange said.
"Only if you promise to not run away and let us see who you really are", I said.
"Fine, just don't hurt me again", the stranger begged.
"Just follow me", I instructed taking him to the living room.
I sat the stranger down.
"Mike find the light switch", I ordered.
"Okay, now to meet this fellow", mike said flicking the light switch up.
The light relied a guy with shabby brown hair wearing a red shirt.
"Who are you?", I asked.
"My name is Wade", he said.
"Well nice to meet you, Wade, I'm Maddie and this is Mike", I said pointing to Mike who waved.
Wade waved back.
"Nice to meet you", Wade said.
"I am truly sorry for hurting you let's get that fixed up", I said looking at the deep cut in his hand.
"It is okay. You had the right to", Wade said.
