Ushijimas POV

Me and my team were in the middle of warmups outside the gym. Seijoh is about to arrive and everything was set for the game already. People were lining up to enter the gym and one of those people that I saw was Yukiko. I let out a smile seeing that she was able to make it.

"Captain! We're all warmed up, you got any words for us?" I heard Semi from behind me. "Let's head back inside, do some serves and spikes" I said. The group went inside and I followed, I started scanning the bleachers above to see if I could spot her. I couldn't find her anywhere, did she sit yet?

"Ushijima!" I turned and saw coach approach me. "Line up with the rest of them, it's time for the talk" he said. I sighed and reluctantly went with the rest of the team.

I'll probably see her during the match.

I saw Seijoh enter the gym and I spotted Oikawa. Our eyes locked. His gaze was cold; I glared at him. For some reason, my competitive nature fired up even more. Knowing Yukiko was here and the history the three of us have, made me need to win this match. Seijoh started warming up as my team started with our basic court warm ups. I glanced up to the bleachers every now and then to see if I could spot her with no avail. I was starting to get worried, she's probably in the bathroom.

I was focused so much on the warmups that I didn't realize that Oikawa snuck out of the gym.

Yukikos POV

When I arrived at the gym, I went to the bathroom instead of my seat. I fixed my face to look slightly better knowing that I'll be meeting Toshi's friends. It was a first, I hadn't even met Tendo yet so I wanted to make a good impression. I even got fake lashes and went to a salon for the first time in years.

When I left the bathroom I ran into someone immediately. Perfect. I looked at the person's shirt and saw their white jacket was now ruined by some of my makeup. "Shit! I'm so sorry!" I looked up and saw Oikawa once again "Oikawa!" I exclaimed "hey" he looked at his jacket "don't worry, I won't be wearing this anymore. You look pretty" he said "oh...thank you" I said "I'm meeting the team today so I wanna make a good impression" I added "they'll love you either way, so you're staying?" He asked "yeah! Toshi wanted me here, I saw Iwa out there. Is he ok to play?" I asked "the doctors say he's in the clear and he says he's up and ready. I trust his judgment" he said.

I smiled hearing him talk about him. It's good for a captain to trust his teammates. It pains me to know that I'm gonna ruin this moment.

"Oikawa, can we talk about what happened between us?" I asked. His facial expression dropped and he became serious "do you really want to?" He asked "I feel like we need to, there are a lot of empty holes and I don't feel like we've settled anything properly" I said. "It's because we haven't, I will always love you Hakura-San. You were the first girl who I truly felt something for, you were different but I couldn't have you" he said. I wasn't expecting him to be so upfront, "I see, I'm sorry I made you feel that way" I said "it wasn't your fault" he said "it was though. I immediately ran to Toshi when I saw one imperfection about you because I can't live like that. I forgot you were human and you made a mistake, but I can't just forget about everything we did together as if it never existed because I felt happy with you" I said.

He leaned against the wall and the look of hurt came on his face, "I'm glad I was able to do that, those were good times...I miss those times" he said "they were but I don't want to think of someone else while with him. I want to settle things with you; I won't live my life thinking that me and you never happened but I don't know how to let this go" I said. He looked down at me, "my feelings aren't going to leave anytime soon, that's not your problem though. You deserve to be happy with a man who you think is good enough for you. I won't get in the way of that...not like last time" he held my hand "I'll get over you but focus on yourself. I messed up with you and he's so much better. You know what the right choice is" he said.

I squeezed his hand, "can we still be friends?" I asked "I don't think so, you're a fantastic girl Yukiko but with all that's happened I don't think that it can happen...at least not now" he said.

Not now.

"I understand" I said, he gave me a sad smile and kissed my hands "wish me luck?" He asked "of course, I wish both of you luck. You'll do great" I said, he gave me a nod and headed back to the gym. I let out a sigh and leaned against the wall.

That was actually hard.

Oikawas POV

I went back to my team ready to play, I gave me usual pep talk and we set up on the court. I glanced up at the bleachers and spotted her, she was looking across from me to him. Her smile was bright and lively, the smile I fell in love with the first time I saw her. She messed with her ring and I noticed he had his around his neck when I shook hands with him.

They're gonna go far and I was okay with that. Even if I win against him in everything I do, I'll always lose  the women's heart that I could never get.

And I was okay with that.

10 Years Later
Yukiko graduated and went to med school to focus on veterinary medicine and got a job at a large hospital in Tokyo. Ushijima got scouted when he graduated High School and now plays for the National Japan Volleyball Team. They both got married 3 years after Yukiko graduated med school and they ended up having two kids, two boys. Yukiko and Oikawa started speaking online after she had kids and kept in contact with each other on social media because of Oikawa's volleyball career, they formed a respectful and strong friendship. Ushijima and Yukiko never take their moon and sun rings off and use them as necklaces when they got their wedding bands.

"The problem with love triangles is that you can't always choose who you fall in love with, but you can choose how you deal with the situation."
