Despite Sonya's warning, Johnny came to Shang Tsung to request a fight with Goro in order to take the Legendary Silver Crystal from him.
The sorcerer accepted on the condition that he be allowed to challenge any opponent of his choosing, anytime and anywhere he chooses.
Raiden tried to intervene, but the conditions were agreed upon before he can do so.
After Shang Tsung left, Raiden confronted Johnny for what he had done in challenging Goro, but was impressed when Johnny showed his awareness of the gravity of the tournament. He also told him to make sure to bring the Silver Crystal to Usagi.
Johnny faced Goro and used guile and the element of surprise to defeat the defending champion. Eventually, before Goro could fall off the cliff, he quickly snatched the necklace of the Legendary Silver Crystal and pushed him away.
Johnny grinned as he held the crystal in his grip. "Bingo."
"Nooo!" He heard Sonya cry out, knowing she was in trouble.
"Sonya!" Johnny called out. He quickly rushed towards the voice.
