Focus.
I adjust the scope of my sniper rifle, aiming at the men below.
Beside me, Sofia loads her weapons with swift precision. She has never faced this type of danger before, but she's on a mission. These people have destroyed her life, and now it's time for her to take revenge.
Danielle couldn't make it here tonight, so Sofia is covering for her. I really wish our sniper team could be complete for once, but Danielle has a good reason to not be coming here—she's pregnant, and right now, everyone is hoping for her to stay safe and sound.
I glance at Sofia. She looks hesitant but determined. She catches my eye and quickly give me a small smile. How could someone be this pretty? Her delicate features, the shy sparkle in her eyes, and her dark blonde hair cascading around her face. Is she even real? I should have asked her out. I really should.
But now's not the time. We have a job to do.
"Are you ready, sugar?" I ask, checking my scope one last time.
"As ready as I'll ever be," she replies.
We take down all the guards by the entrance first, shooting them one by one to make sure Minji and Haerin make it through.
"Proceed with the entry," Haerin's voice comes through the comms.
I prepare with Sofia, quickly rappelling down the building using ropes. Jaehyun and Matteo stay above, watching over the perimeter.
"Make sure you get down there safe!" Jaehyun wishes with a smirk.
I reach the floor first, then help Sofia down from the rope. Jaehyun covers up the small round hole with its cover.
Everything is dark. This must be the attic of the building.
We move as one, Sofia walking closely beside me. I draw my favorite gun, and as soon as I open another hatch to go down, we see people and quickly shoot them all from behind.
The silence is shattered by the sudden violence.
"Well, that's... not so hard," Sofia says.
I smirk. I reach for her hand and go down first, landing smoothly on a large crate before helping her down.
We walk through the dark hallways. The sounds of gunfire and shouting echoing around us. Every corner we turn, there's another enemy, but we take them down quickly and silently.
I cover Sofia's back, making sure no one gets too close. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to her.
"Hyein, on your right!" Sofia's warning comes just in time.
I pivot, taking down a thug who was about to ambush us.
Sofia fires at another, her aim deadly accurate. For someone who only trained for a few days, that's actually impressive.
We burst into a larger room. The fight intensifies. Men pour in from every direction, but I stay calm, killing them off one by one with my rifle. Sofia's shots hit their marks with lethal accuracy.
"You okay?" I shout over the noise, glancing at her.
"All okay!" she replies with a fierce grin on her face.
A man lunges at her, and I don't hesitate. A single shot to the head. He drops at her feet. She nods her thanks, and we go on, clearing the room with the last two men.
"Almost there," I call out, reloading.
Sofia moves to my side, scanning the room for any more threats. "We need to get to the main hall."
My mind already calculating the best route. "Follow me."
We move quickly, taking down the last of the guards. Each shot, each kill, brings us closer to our goal. Sofia stays close, and I make sure to keep her within my line of sight at all times.
Suddenly, I hear a gunshot coming from a nearby room. I pull the door open, only to feel my shoulder throb with pain from a grazing bullet.
I whimper, collapsing to the ground and clutching my wound.
Inside, I find Hanni, her eyes wide with fear.
"Hyein! You're here!" Hanni rushes to me, looking disheveled and holding a gun. Where did she get a gun?
"Hanni," I mutter, relief flooding through me. "We all came here for you. Thank God you're safe. What happened?"
She gasps and covers her mouth as she takes in my injury. "Fuck, you're bleeding! I'm so sorry! I really thought it was—"
"Nah, it's fine. Not the first time," I wink, immediately getting up to my feet though it fucking hurts like hell.
I look at the room Hanni was locked in and gasp. A fucking sex dungeon.
"Hyein! Are you okay?" Sofia's voice snaps me back to reality. I didn't even realize she was next to me.
I smile at her. How can she be so cute and small? I almost forget my pain until it comes back to me, making me wince.
"You're bleeding. We need to get back to your friends!" she says worriedly as she checks my shoulder. Aw, she cares about me.
"Will she be fine?" Hanni asks.
"Yes, she'll be fine, Hanni. You need to go to Minji. She's been searching for you," Sofia covers up with a smile, reassuring.
"Where is she?" Hanni asks again.
"Downstairs. Somewhere around the main hall. Be careful," Sofia answers.
Hanni nods, without thinking, she immediately runs past us and heads forward.
As Hanni rushes off, Sofia turns to me, her expression softening. "Let's get you patched up."
"I'm fine, sugar, really." I try downplay the pain, but only wincing as I move.
Sofia rolls her eyes playfully. "Stop acting tough. Let me take care of you for a moment."
She tears a piece of cloth from her shirt and wraps it around my shoulder, tightening it to stop the bleeding. Her touch is so gentle. I feel a warmth spreading through my stomach.
"Thanks. You're pretty good at this." And really pretty too. Like an angel.
"Well, I've had a good teacher," she replies with a wink.
I chuckle. "You're something else, sugar."
She grins, finishing up the temporary bandage. "There, all done. Now, let's catch up with Hanni and Minji."
