It's still early in the morning. The soft morning light filters through the big window, casting a warm glow over Haerin as she sleeps soundly on my king-size bed.
She's wrapped up in my pink comforter, her body and hand covered in bandages from last night. Her breathing is slow and steady, but her brow furrows occasionally, making me wonder if nightmares are chasing her even in sleep.
I walk quietly around my room, careful not to wake her. There's something beautiful and life-changing I need to share with her—something I only discovered yesterday but should've known earlier.
How could I not notice? No wonder I was so emotional before this, even taking my anger out on Minji. My poor sister. I promise I'll apologize to her later.
I glance at the small box hidden in my bag, millions of butterflies swirling in my stomach as I imagine how her reaction is going to be.
I take a deep breath and exhale slowly before settling on the edge of the bed, delicately brushing a strand of hair from Haerin's face. I stare at her, she's so beautiful it feels unreal—her feline eyes, sharp nose, and the curl of her lips give her a cat-like grace.
She stirs slightly in her sleep. A soft groan escaping her lips.
I lean down to kiss her forehead. "Morning, my love," I whisper softly.
Slowly, she opens her eyes, blinking against the morning light. "Sunshine? What time is it?" Her voice is raspy with sleepiness.
I bite my lip. Her morning voice is incredibly sexy. How can someone be so attractive? How did I get so lucky?
"It's still early, but I need to talk to you about something important." My heart pounds in my chest, almost ready to explode. "If you're up for it, of course."
Haerin tries to sit up, wincing at the movement. I quickly help her, propping her up with pillows.
"What is it?" She looks at me sleepily, curiosity filling her cat-like eyes.
I reach for the small box and hand it to her. "Open it."
She looks at me for a moment, puzzled, but takes the box and slowly unwraps it. Inside, she finds a tiny pair of baby shoes and a note.
Her eyes widen as she reads the message.
Our little one is on the way. Due in December.
Tears well up in her eyes as she looks from the note to me, her lips trembling.
"Sunshine, are you...?"
I nod, her reaction nearly bringing tears to my eyes. We'd always joked about this moment, knowing it would come, but I never expected to feel this way when I finally told her, "I'm pregnant. I'm carrying our baby, Haerin."
