Meeting Eunseo gave me hope. But it didn't last long.

One day, Eunseo overheard something she wasn't supposed to. She discovered that my uncle was betraying us and had something planned with the enemy.

Eunseo tried to reach me, to warn me. Her steps were frantic, her breath labored as she ran through the dark corridors of the Yakuza building.

"Haerin!" she called out.

I was lost in the rhythm of practicing my sword forms when I heard her.

But she never made it. They caught her before she could reach me. The men dragged her into the courtyard, and the entire Yakuza was summoned to witness.

I stood among the crowd, my heart pounding in my chest, as they forced Eunseo to her knees.

"Eunseo!" I screamed, trying to push my way through the throng of onlookers, but strong hands held me back.

I struggled, my mind racing, trying to understand why this was happening.

My uncle stood at the front. I knew what he was going to do, and my heart screamed, begging whatever force above to help and stop him in time.

He stepped forward, addressing the assembly with a cold, commanding voice. "This is what happens to traitors," he said, his eyes locking onto mine for a brief, chilling moment.

Eunseo looked at me, though we were far apart. Her eyes filled with tears.

"Haerin," she managed to whisper, just loud enough for me to hear. "I love you. Don't blame yourself."

And then it happened. One of the men drew his gun and pulled the trigger. The sound of the shot rang out.

Eunseo's body jerked. She crumpled to the ground, lifeless.

I was forced to stand there, paralyzed by a mix of horror and rage, as they made an example of her.

Her screams echoed in my mind, her blood staining the ground. I wanted to move, to fight, but I was frozen, my heart breaking with each passing second.

"No!" I screamed.

I fell to my knees, tears streaming down my face.

The crowd began to disperse, their interest waning now that the show was over. My uncle remained, his expression unchanged, as if nothing had happened.

When it was over, I stayed there, numb and broken.

Eunseo was gone. She was gone. The one and only person who gave me hope was gone.

"One day, we'll make it out of here. Just me and you." Her words echoed in my mind.

I wiped my tears harshly, gritting my teeth as I forced myself back up.
