(Diego's POV)

I had to leave eventually. I had to go back home and leave my lovely boyfriend's house. I wish I could be with him all day long. Yet duty called and I had to go back home to my dull family.

None of my family knows that Mason is my boyfriend. None of them even know that I've ever dated a guy in my life. My parents are quite religious, I know they wouldn't take that news well. My dad would probably beat the shit out of me and my mom would just bawl her eyes out.

But it's not like I plan on telling them anytime soon. I completely intend to just graduate and live my life apart from them. I might visit my mom every now and then though.

After spending the whole morning with Mason, the rest of the day was very monotonous. I just went home and stayed in my room, texting Mason, thinking of Mason, dreaming of Mason once I fell asleep.

Tomorrow I have school, not the worst thing in the world. When I'm at school I get to see Mason and play hockey, two of my most favorite things ever. And now that I'm dating Mason I get to do more than just see him every day. I get to spend so much more time with him, I get to kiss him, hold his hand, maybe even more someday.

At some point during the night, one of the family cats had made its way into my room. Thankfully it was my favorite of the few cats in the house, Penelope. She's a regular tabby cat, around average size. She's the nicest too, the only one of the cats that likes me. She spends lots of time with me and in my room, so it's not very surprising that she came in here anyway.

She got in through the doorway, I had it slightly cracked open, too lazy to get up and fully close it. She jumped up onto my bed and walked around it for a bit before she found a comfortable spot to start kneading into my blanket. Then she laid down, half on me, half on the blanket. I watched her during this full process, fascinated by the odd behaviors of cats.

I let out a small laugh and lifted my other hand to pet her head before turning my attention back to my phone. I was texting Mason before Penelope had interrupted, now I was able to turn my attention back to the conversation. At some point pets were mentioned, what a coincidence that one of mine is sitting right on my arm. Of course, I took a picture of me with Penelope, sending it straight to Mason.

I have lots of pictures of Mason on my phone. A few taken during the few weeks we've been dating. I won't lie, I do have a few pictures I took of him before we were even friends. And since I'm on the hockey team, I even have those old pictures of him from the whole Simon incident. I have a folder in my phone full of my favorite pictures of Mason, most of them are all the recent ones where I've been able to be closer to him.

So the picture he sent in return of mine was immediately put into my favorites. It was a simple picture, but so much more than that to me. The picture was very similar to mine, a picture of Mason on his bed, next to Maverick. Of course, I complimented him, and the conversation continued.

Eventually he went to bed, or at least he said he did. So I typed out an easy ‘good night’ and sent it to him before putting my phone down. I sighed, buried my face in my pillow, then lifted it back up so I could see what I was doing as I plugged my phone in for the night and set it down on my nightstand. From there I was able to just lay my head back down and soon drift off to sleep.
