El is sitting in her history class, paying attention when all of a sudden she hears a few giggles from behind her and the impact of a paper ball crumpled up hitting her head.
She frowned at the paper and un crumpled it to read "Freak!"
El turned around to see 2 boys, 3 girls, trying to keep in their laughter.
El turned back around to look at the paper and felt the tears well up in her eyes.
"Jane! No passing notes in class!" The teacher yelled and pointed a finger at the young girl.
Els eyes widened.
"But I didn't—!"
"That's enough from you, missy. I don't want to hear it. You're lucky that I'm not giving you detention!
El shrunk down and just simply nodded her head. Covering her ears, and closing her eyes tightly to ignore the laughter that echoed behind her.
Once class ended she basically ran out of the classroom hearing footsteps follow her.
"El! El! El, are you okay?" Lucas asked quietly, as he had witnessed the whole thing.
El was about to reply but was cut off by another voice.
"Hey, freak! Sorry about getting you in trouble!" The main male bully named Sam laughed and pouted mockingly before throwing another piece of paper at her.
"Mother fucker!—" Lucas grunted and moved forward to Sam before el pulled him back.
"It's okay." She whispered quietly.
Lucas and el had developed a brother- sister relationship ever since max began her coma. They bonded over their connection to max. And when they were both present when she woke, the bond grew when the two cried in happiness and relief together.
The group of bully's laughed and walked away, shaking their heads.
El looked down. "I'm okay..."
Lucas sighed.
"Come on, let's walk to lunch."
El and Lucas then began walking to the cafeteria to meet the party.
"El, you need to tell Mike about this."
Els eyes widened and immediately shook her head.
"No, no, no! He can't know! He'll go insane, and... and he'll be mad at me for not telling him sooner!" El stressed.
"And besides! It's not even that bad, they just say mean things sometimes..."
Lucas sent a look to the girl he had learned to care for.
"And if it gets physical?"
Deep down el knew that was a possibility, that the bully's could get physical. She couldn't use her powers in that situation, seeing as she had promised hopper she wouldn't use them.
But she simply shook her head in denial.
"It won't."
Lucas sighed as they finally made their way to the cafeteria.
She sat down next to Mike who brought her hand to his lips with a smile.
"Hey, I missed you." Mike smiled sweetly.
El flashed a quick fake smile.
"I missed you too."
Mike furrowed his eyebrows.
"Are you okay?" Mike asked slowly.
El nodded. "Yeah I'm fine, perfectly fine!" El smiled.
Mike looked at Lucas, almost as if asking for confirmation.
