I ran away from him as fast as I could. I wiped the tears that were rolling from my eyes and down my face as quickly as I could. I couldn't believe he had done that.
"Scarlet, I'm sorry. Come back!"
I ignored him. I found myself getting tired and not wanting to go on. I stopped and rested my back against a cold brick wall. I slid down to my knees and started crying.
I could hear him running towards me but I never looked up.
"Scarlet! Please!"
His footsteps stopped.

"Scarlet please honey get up. You're going to be late for school."
I realized that I had been dreaming. I cupped my hands around my face to block the sun as my mom opened the blinds.
I winced as my fingers touched my cheek and I remembered that not only had I been dreaming, but I was reliving what had happened the night before.

"How was your date with Lucas last night?"

I shrugged, not sure what to say.

"I didn't hear you come in, or any vehicles pull in the driveway. How late did you get home?"

I honestly didn't remember what time I had gotten in. All I knew was that I wanted to walk home but found myself in the passengers seat of Lucas' mustang.

"Must've been around 2 or so."

I took down my hair and let it cover the side of my face in case I had a bruise or scratch.

"Scarlet, are you sleeping with him?"

I was kind of grossed out by my moms question but I guess a 16 year old not getting home until after midnight from a date with her boyfriend did seem kind of sketchy.
I grabbed my clothes and headed for the bathroom.

"No."
I slammed the door shut.

"What did you say happened to your face again?" My best friend, Katherine, asked as I reapplied my concealer to my cheek.

" Lucas and I got super drunk last night and dipshit let me fall up the stairs while we were on the way to his room."
Around that time Lucas appeared on the other side of Katherine. I shut her locker.
"Thanks for letting me use your mirror."
She nodded and turned to Lucas.

"Scarlet told me what happened to her cheek."
Lucas bit his lip.
"She did?"
"Yeah and I know you're 19 and all but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with you getting my best friend that drunk."
Lucas let out a small chuckle in relief.
"I promise we'll be careful."

He walked around Katherine and put his arm around me. We walked towards my second period class.

"Why are you here Lucas I don't want to talk to you right now. Please just go away."

"Scarlet I said I was sorry. I can't take it back. I mean if I could, I would but I can't change the past."
He seemed so nonchalant about the whole situation.
I stopped in my tracks and turned to face him.

"It shouldn't have happened in the first place Lucas! You can't go around hitting people because they call you out on what YOU did wrong!"

Lucas kept his voice low.
"Scarlet I told you I didn't sleep with that girl so yes I am going to get angry when you call me a liar."

I pushed past Lucas and went into my chemistry classroom.

I stayed awake for about five minutes before I got tired of my teacher rambling on about lab safety. I put my head down.

"I swear to you I didn't even touch her!"

I couldn't look Lucas in his eyes. I couldn't believe this. We were in the middle of a Chili's parking lot fighting like animals. We hadn't even eaten yet.
"Let's not do this here. You're overreacting. Let's just enjoy date night."
Lucas put his hands on my arms, I pushed him away from me.

"I know what I saw! Her leaving your house conveniently right before I got there is kind of sketchy don't you think? You're such a liar! I shouldn't have even got in the car with you!"

Lucas was getting upset because he had nothing else he could argue about. The evidence was building against him.
"What did you say?"

"I said you're a God damn liar Lucas! And I'll say it again. Just wait until I tell Kenny you slept with his girlfriend!"

Kenny was Lucas' best friend and also quarterback of our championship football team.
Lucas' face was blood red and I knew what he was about to do.

I flinched, hitting my leg against my desk and waking up. I had to stop having these flashbacks.

"Are you alright Scarlet ?" My teacher, Mr. Castillo asked.

I nodded. The bell rang and I gathered my things. As I was exiting the room. Mr. Castillo stopped me by putting his hand on my shoulder.
"Are you sure everything is okay?"
He sat down on his desk.
"Why wouldn't it be?"
Castillo pointed to my face. My makeup must've rubbed off in my sleep.
"Oh! that. Yeah, don't tell my mom but I got kinda drunk last night."
I wanted to keep my story straight so I stuck to the same one I told Katherine.
Mr. Castillo grinned and nodded.
"I completely understand. I was a teenager too once.."
I laughed nervously and left the room.
