I went and stood between Lucas and Sam. Pushing Lucas out of the doorway. "Lucas I need you to leave and stop trying to intimidate him. I thought that I made myself clear when I told you that I don't want anything to do with you. Leave."
"Maybe instead of you worrying about me being a cheater I should be worried about you. You've known this guy for what?, 5 hours? And you let him into your home? He could be a rapist!"
Lucas was so stupid I couldn't help but laugh and look away.
"I can't cheat on you. Because I'm not dating you. Leave."
Lucas looked confused.
"You're breaking up with me?"
I nodded and shut the door in his face.*****
"I don't want to get in the car with you."
"I'm not letting you walk home in the rain get in the damn car Scarlet!"I got in and slammed the door shut. I never looked Lucas in the face. I wasn't even sure what this side of him was. I had seen him punch walls and knock things over but he never hit me before.
"Look I'm sorry." Lucas said angrily. He looked over at me, waiting for my reply.
"I said I'm sorry." He repeated.
"Yeah I heard you the first time."Lucas stopped the car.
"What do you want from me?!"
I remained calm even though he was yelling.
"Right now all I want is for you to take me home."
Lucas hit his hand against the steering wheel and then kept driving
"Okay. Fair enough."
*****
"Scarlet, wake up. I should probably leave, I think your mom is home."
I opened my eyes and saw Sam sitting on the bed next to me. I must've fallen asleep while he was drawing. I rubbed my eyes.
"I'll take you home"
Sam and I made our way down the stairs.
"Sorry that I fell asleep, I didn't even realize how tired I actually was."
Sam shrugged.
"It's fine, I finished my portrait." I tried to look at it but his book was closed.
When we got down the stairs my mom was sitting at the kitchen table reading a book.
"Oh hey sweetheart," she paused when she saw Sam and moved her glasses down to the bridge of her nose.
"Who's this?"
"Sam. He's in my art class, we've been working on a project."
My mom slowly smiled and made small talk with Sam.
Asking where he lived, his age, and other things like that.
"Well I've got to run Sam home I'll be right back"
Sam and I got into my bright red Jeep Wrangler and he typed his address into my gps.
The ride to his house was kind of quiet.
"I'm surprised Lucas left that easily to be honest." Sam spoke, breaking the silence.
"Don't worry, he's just trying to think of something to make me feel bad so I'll go back to him. Tomorrow he'll act like it never happened."
I pulled into Sam's driveway. It was a huge white and stone house. Had to of been three stories if not more. His family must've had good money.
"Come inside, i'll give you some money for the pizza we ordered."
I followed Sam in looking around.
Majority of things were still in boxes or plastic wrapping.
I waited for him to get his wallet off of the counter and pull out a twenty.
"Nice place."
I murmured looking at the expensive wall mirrors and mounted flat screen tvs.
"Yeah.. My stepdad works for a high end company. Maybe the only reason my mom stays with him."I didn't know what to say, I still didn't want to ask any questions that would make him emotional.
"Well I'll see you tomorrow. Thanks for the money."
I waved to Sam and headed for the door.
"Hey," Sam stopped me. "I'll pick you up for school?"
I nodded as I opened the door.
"Yeah, that'd be nice."
Sam winked and smiled as I shut the door behind me.
"See ya around 7!"
He shouted through the door.
