As the carriage pulled into Gusu, Lan Wangji lay unconscious, while Wei Wúxiàn had fallen into an exhausted sleep beside him.
The Lan healers, accompanied by Wen Qing, swiftly moved to tend to the injured. They carried both Wei Wúxiàn and Lan Wangji to the healing chambers, their faces etched with worry. After hours of meticulous care, Madam Lan ordered that Wúxiàn and Wangji be moved to the Jingshi, for further rest and recovery.
Wei Wúxiàn was the first to regain his consciousness. His mind was foggy while his body was aching. His mind slowly put together the pieces of his memories, the haze of pain and fatigue gradually lifting. He recalled the intense battles, the clash of swords, and more importantly the moment he struck his Lan Zhan. He thought about how he had hurt the person he cared about most, and a pang of guilt shot through him. "What have I done?" he thought, his mind racing with regret. His heart felt like it was squeezing tight, making it hard to breathe.
Then the Anxiety crept in, worrying about Lan Wangji's injuries and whether he was okay. His imagination running wild, and the worst of them all, his mind painted a picture of Lan Zhan lying hurt and alone.
Then Fear of losing Lan Wangji's trust and damaging their bond gripped him tight. He thought about how Daoren's Qi corrupted his, and how he had failed to control his actions.
As the memories flooded back, Wei Wuxian felt a deep sorrow within his heart. He wished he could go back in time and change what had happened, but he knew he couldn't. All he could do was hope that Lan Wangji would forgive him for hurting him.
Turning his head, he noticed Lan Wangji lying next to him. Panic surged through him again as he checked Wangji for injuries, his hands trembling. When he found none, he sighed in relief, his shoulders sagging. "Thank the heavens,"
Wei Wúxiàn lay next to Wangji, his fingers gently caressing and stroking his hair. his fingers moving tenderly through the silky strands. "Lan Zhan, you stubborn fool... Why did you push yourself so hard ?" 'If something happened to you, I'd be devastated.' The room was filled with the soft sound of his voice as he spoke to his beloved, his words a mixture of unspoken fears.
His expression becomes tender as he watched his omega sleep peacefully, his pendent peaking out of his robes. Wei Wúxiàn is hit with the wave of nostalgia,
"Do you remember the first time we met? (He chuckles) Oh, Lan Zhan, you were such a sight! I'm still traumatized by the way you were stuffing your face with food and forgot your money pouch, I had to pay the bill, and my heart was heavier than the gold I shelled out!"He softly pinched Wangji's chubby cheeks "Thank goodness I'm an Emperor or I'd be penniless in no time. I wonder where all the food goes? And how come you are not chubby after eating so much, Cubby Lan Zhan would looks so cute like a squirrel or a father bunny."
Lan Wangji stirred at the sound of Wei Wúxiàn's voice his eyes fluttered open, a hint of a smile on his lips. "Shut up, Wei Ying," he muttered, his voice husky with sleep.
Wei Wúxiàn voice was trembling "Lan Zhan, you're awake."
Lan Wangji "Water..."
Wei Wúxiàn reaching for a cup of water. "Here, drink this." He helped Wangji sit up slightly and brought the cup to his lips. "Drink slowly, Lan Zhan".
Wangji drank slowly, his eyes never leaving Wei Wúxiàn's face. The worry and pain etched in Wei Wúxiàn's features, but there was an overwhelming love in his every action.
As soon as he was done, Wangji's brow furrowed. "Wei Ying, Are you alright? Are you hurt?"
Lan Wangji's held Wúxiàn's cheeks. Wei Wúxiàn held his hand and grasped it tightly, bringing it to his lips and kissing it tenderly. He chuckled, shaking his head. "I'm fine, Lan Zhan. Don't worry about me." But his smile wavered, and tears began to well up in his eyes. "I'm so sorry, Lan Zhan. I... I didn't mean for any of this to happen."
