Division of the Dragon

Master Orys - Citatel, Oldtown

The year 306 was undoubtedly the most turbulent in the history of Westeros. Everyone feared for their lives as we witnessed the wrath of the dragon unleashed upon the traitors responsible for Queen Daenerys I's bitterest loss. No one was safe until Lady Tyrell's death was avenged and the culprits punished according to Her Majesty's wishes. At the onset of that winter, all witnessed the dire effects of a Targaryen's hatred with dragons. It may take two decades for the realm to recover from this catastrophe.

The Dragon Queen devastated the houses Lannister and Baratheon in one fell swoop after a betrayal that resulted in another painful loss that winter: Asha Greyjoy. Witnesses report that upon hearing news of the betrayal in King's Landing, the queen's reaction was absolute chaos, making it clear that no one should be her enemy. Daenerys spared innocent lives on the condition that these people renounce their names and erase all records of their lineage. The names of the two mentioned houses were condemned to oblivion, deemed extinct. Those who insisted on retaining the names of the traitors would pay with their lives.

Away from the capital, a conspiracy was brewing at Dragonstone to kill Daenerys Targaryen, plotted by Tyrion, Varys, and other stubborn lords who disagreed with a woman on the Iron Throne. The result of this conspiracy was pure chaos and horror, for after her beloved's death, the Queen did not tolerate betrayal. Daenerys Targaryen landed at her family's ancestral seat and struck a deal with the traitors.

The smartest men in Westeros were now considered fools, at least that's how the humblest people referred to them. A deal with the queen at that point seemed too good to be true. As the conspirators left the castle, Daenerys Targaryen's three dragons descended from the skies at an absurd speed and not only killed the traitors but also burned Euron Greyjoy's entire fleet of ships. The spared population described how the queen had an angelic and gentle demeanor as she reduced her enemies to dust. After that, no one would ever consider her a weak or foolish queen again.

I and the other masters present in the castle watched from the tower as the combat between Euron Greyjoy and Jon Snow unfolded. Surely, the son of Eddard Stark was blessed by the gods. It was a tough and evenly matched fight in terms of skill; Ned's son was a promising man with a great future ahead of him. Jon questioned Euron about the hand he used to blind Athena, and in moments, that same hand was severed with a single sword stroke.

Jon was legitimized as a Stark at the end of the battle, although it was decided that his elder sister, Sansa Stark, would be the official ruler of the North. Jon Stark and the queen's most loyal advisor, Missandei, were responsible for planning the realm's reconstruction throughout the remainder of that terrible year.

Daenerys' reign began with Fire and Blood, but she spared as many innocent lives as possible during the conflicts. This was an important decision so that the people feared her but did not associate her with her father, the infamous Mad King Aerys. Over a thousand ravens were sent from King's Landing; all titled lords and ladies were summoned before the Iron Throne to swear allegiance to the queen.

Lady Sansa and Queen Daenerys briefly met that year when the queen personally visited the North to appoint her as its guardian and protector. There were whispers of tension between them; Sansa spared no praise but also did not hold back criticisms of the new queen's rule. The lords and ladies present in the hall feared the dragons might set Winterfell ablaze after that tense encounter between the two women.

Daenerys Targaryen's final act of governance was to erect a statue honoring all those lost in the war. The monument stood in the central square of the kingdom's capital, where many stopped to leave flowers at the obelisk.

At the base of the monument were inscribed the following words:

"In memory of all who fell fighting to free the people, in honor of all warriors and innocents lost in the year 306. In memory of: Lady Olenna Tyrell, Lady Athena Tyrell, Princess Consort, and Queen Asha Greyjoy."
