Letter 6 of 7

311 a.c

Braavos - Essos

I am writing this letter knowing that it will never reach your hands, as I will burn it or one of my allies will ensure that it never reaches Westeros. Therefore, I have no problem writing this letter. It is exhausting to always be a good man and friend. Five damn years have passed, and she has never forgotten you. You are an incredibly lucky wretch; only the gods' preference for you could explain such fortune.

The original plan was to use her as a bargaining chip to make you give up the throne or to lure you into a deadly trap. The battle in the Reach was unexpected, and for a moment, I had considered finishing Cersei's work when we were escaping with her... but the wretch turned out to be quite charismatic once we managed to get away. I thought she might be more than just a bargaining chip; if there's one thing we both agree on, it's that Athena is perfect for the role of a royal wife.

I struck a deal with Bran Stark: I would give him the North, and the rest of the Six Kingdoms would be mine after your death. In return, he would help me dispose of any letters Athena writes, should any of them reach Westeros, and she would be mine, not yours, as fate intended. This arrangement was quite beneficial for years; I see no reason to lie, especially now that she has stopped snooping on my letters.

I made sure her letters and mine never reached you. I know how our family operates, and the moment the first letter had reached you, a dragon would have flown immediately to Essos. You are also very possessive and protective of what you consider yours, so I did not need such a problem behind me. At that moment, I was in no condition to flee or fight dragons; it was too exhausting.

Gradually, I managed to dishearten her and make Athena harbor a grudge against you. She may love you, but the five years in the dark without a decent response have surely caused some damage. She sighs for you, but I think she has given up trying to leave Essos, which is far more beneficial for me. For now, I will be content with the fact that she will inevitably be your enemy, and later I will try to win her heart. But if I become king, she will be my wife.

Her last attempt to get to Westeros almost succeeded, but I had to stage a robbery at our house and disappear with the gold coins. While I spent the money on cheap whores in brothels, she was busy crying at home. I must say that night I ate the best food and slept with as many women as I wanted, living the life of a king that was denied to me. If Athena weren't so puritanical, she would certainly have been in my bed by now.

I pray for your reign to end miserably and that you live long enough to see me take the throne and marry your woman.

They say you either play the game of thrones, or you die.

With affection from your beloved nephew,

King Aegon VI
