Hopper's Cabin
Will's POV
"Will!" I hear a faint voice as I slowly open my eyes. "You are going to miss your flight! Jonathan's already waiting!" I check the time and it's already 9:06 a.m. Shit! The flight's at 9:30!
"Yeah! Coming, Mom! I'm almost ready!" I lie. I hop out of bed and rush to the bathroom to brush my teeth.

The Wheeler House
Mike's POV
"Let's get going, Mike!" I hear Nancy yelling. I walk down the stairs and see Nancy waiting next to the front door with her car keys in her hand.
"Woah, I didn't think you would actually be ready on time. We're actually gonna be early," she says shocked. "Okay, let's go."
We say bye to Mom, Dad, Holly. I still feel so bad for leaving Holly behind, but she'll be in good hands. Once we get in the car, I remember something that I have to do.
"Hey, Nance?" I ask my sister.
"Hm?" she responds.
"Can we make a quick stop?"
"What? Why?"
"I have to see a friend."
"You already said bye to all your friends yesterday. We have to get to the airport."
"Not everyone. Just drive to the hospital. Don't worry, we won't be late."

Hawkins Hospital
"Make it quick," Nancy says as I walk to Max's hospital room. I know Max and I aren't the best of friends, but she's still my friend and I feel like I need to say bye to her after everything that has happened. Maybe I can even apologize.
I walk up to her door and put my hand on the doorknob. I open the door and see Erica standing next to Max's bed. I assume that she's probably there because Lucas is there. I look around, but Lucas is not there. She came by herself? That's sweet. I smile to myself.
"Oh, hi Mike" Erica looks at me.
"Mike's here? I thought he was going to California." Max asks Erica since she can't see if I'm actually here.
"Well, I couldn't leave without saying bye." I wonder how she's going to react to that.
"Wow. I can't believe it. Is this really the same asshole who wouldn't let me join the party?" she says sarcastically.
"Oh my god, shut up. That was years ago." I laugh. "I guess I was an asshole, but I'm trying to change now. I really am. So...I'm here to apologize to you, Max."
"What?" Max asks extremely shocked.
"I'll give you guys a moment. I wanted to get something from the vending machine anyway." Erica says while walking out the door.
"Wait what? Are you actually apologizing? For what?" Max asks me confused.
"Well, when I first met you I mainly didn't want you in the party because you would replace El, but I also wanted to protect you from all this stuff. With the upside down and the monsters. I just didn't want you to get hurt. I shouldn't have been such an asshole about it though."
"Oh.. I didn't know that." Max says.
"I guess I just blame myself of what happened to you. You came so extremely close to death. You literally died for a minute. If I never let you join the party, you'd still be alive. I'm so sorry, Max. I really am." I didn't think I would be saying all this to her. It makes me sound so miserable, but I am. I truly am. Hopefully she understands.
"Mike...It's okay. It's not your fault. I chose to be apart of this. It was my decision and I wouldn't want it to be any other way. I helped save Hawkins, didn't I?" she laughs a little while nudging me. I look down because I still blame myself for all of what has happened to her.
"Mike?" Max says and I look up at her.
"Yeah?"
"Sorry, you were just quiet for a little. Just please don't blame yourself, Mike. Trust me, I know how it feels. When Billy died, I blamed myself so much. Everyday, his death kept rewinding in my head over and over again. I just stood there. I could've saved him. I really could've. But now, I have people who truly care about me and won't let me give in, like Lucas and Erica." Max smiles. " I can be that person for you, if you want."
"Really?" I ask her. She nods and I thank her. "Wow. So I guess we're kind of like besties now, huh?"
"Yeah, I guess we are." she smiles. "Have fun in California, Mike. Remember when you come back, I'm always free to talk."
"Thank you, Max. Bye," I smile and leave the room. I see Erica walking my way and I wave bye to her. She waves back and I turn to see Nancy. She pulls me down the hall while yelling at me. I don't even pay attention because I thinking about the conversation I just had with Max.

On Airplane
3rd Person
Mike and Will sit next together as Nancy and Jonathan sit in the two seats in front of them. Will is in the window seat. He looks out of it and sees all the gates Vecna created around Hawkins. His face drops and Mike notices.
"What's wrong?" Mike asks.
"Do you think all of this will ever stop? Will it ever be over?" Will turns to Mike and looks at him with a worried look.
"Hey" Mike gently puts his hand on Will's shoulder. "We'll stop it. Don't worry. But for now, you have to be safe." Mike takes his hand off Will's shoulder.
"Yeah," Will tries to convince himself that it's the right thing to do. Will goes back into looking through the window. Suddenly, he feels weight on his shoulder. He turns and sees Mike's head rested on his shoulder with his eyes closed. Will blushes a bit and gently places his head on top of Mike's.
Will is finally convinced that he's safe. He'll always be safe as long as he's with Mike.
