The day was so peaceful, till I got that call from the hospital.
"There was an attempted shooting at your cousin, and one boy got shot instead."
Fucking Vijay. What purpose did he have getting shot for Shanaya? As much as I'm thankful Shan is not hurt, why did it have to be Vijay?
I'll not be able to hate him in peace now.
I rush to the hospital.
"I..heard something... happened.." I say, panting.
Shanaya who's curled beside Avni looks up. Her face is pale, and eyes are lost.
I look at Avni, her hands have blood on them, and I hate the sight of it.
"Something did." Ravi whispers.
They recap how someone shot at Shanaya and Vijay blocked it.
"Someone tried to shoot you?" I ask.
"Yes."
It could be anyone, perhaps one of our enemies.
Shanaya looks so blank. Avni glances at me and then at Shanaya.
She's feeling guilty.
I clutch Shan's shoulder and say, "This is not your fault, alright?"
She nods unconvincingly.
A few moments later a nurse shows up and says, "We need urgent blood donation. O negative."
"I'm O negative." Shanaya pipes up
"Sit down Shanaya, you're already in shock, you are not donating your blood." I say.
"Why the fuck!? He's dying he needs bloo-"
Avni's also looking at me, with a weid expression.
"Be civil with Vijay."
"I'm also O negative. I'll donate. "
Everyone looks at me like I just cracked the weirdest joke.
I'm only donating blood to him because Avni wanted me to be nice to him, and because Vijay will never be able to live with the fact I saved him.
"Really?" Shanaya asks.
"Yes."
Avni looks at me with an almost proud expression.
The nurse guides me away and asks me some questions, "When was your blood last tested? Did you have any transmitable disease then?"
