Numb.

Aurelia was numb.

Besides the scorching pain, radiating her entire body.

It was like two sides of her heart were fighting. Engaged in a brutal battle over who she loved more.

Only her heart couldn't decide and neither could her head.

It was the hardest decision she would ever have to make, she was sure of it.

Leave Isaac and find Stiles.

Or leave Stiles and stay with Isaac.

After the power cut two evenings prior, Isaac had been electrocuted. A stray wire flew from the roof of the hospital and electrified the water covered ground. In his efforts to save Allison from a surely fatal injury, he pushed her out of the way and took the brunt of it.

Knocking him unconscious and stopping him breathing.

His pulse, gone.

And Lia felt every second of it.

Her heart shattered for the second time.

And then there was Stiles, completely MIA.

He had been for two days. The power cut was the perfect opportunity for someone to slip by unnoticed.

She knew everyone was out looking for him, everyone that could at least, but Lia was fixed to the spot. Her mind racing and her heart aching.

"I thought he'd be healing by now." Allison's voice rung out as she and Scott stepped in the room. Unbeknownst to them, Lia was stood mere feet away, masking her scent to the best of her abilities.

"So did I." Scott said, finally reaching his bedside. Reaching out, he placed a hand on his arm and tried to feel his pain. The pain was there but it was minimal.

"Is he in pain?"

"Yes, but it's not bad." Scott furrowed his brows, confused but relieved he was okay.

"Did Stiles really do this?" Allison asked, hurt and betrayal lacing her voice.

Scott looked at her, almost insulted by her tone. "Whatever's controlling him did it. Whatever's inside of him."

"Nogitsune. A dark fox spirit. Thrives on chaos, strife, pain." Aurelia spoke, her eyes gently shut as her back stayed glued to the wall. She sounded monotone, no emotion. Almost like she was holding something back.

"How do you know about that?"

With no answer given, Aurelia pushed off against the wall. Her face scrunched in pain, at the same moment Isaac moved uncomfortably. "I'm sorry, Zac." Lia whispered, before taking a deep breath and standing straighter. Moving to his bedside, she brushed the hair from his face and kissed his temple.

"What was that?"

"I was holding his pain. I can't absorb it, like wolves can. I can hold it. Hurts like hell, but I can." Aurelia's answer came out a little bit snappier than she intended to, but she was still recovering.

"You can do that?" Scott asked, with more worry than curiosity.

"Through mediation, yes. But when you came in it knocked me, I've split the pain evenly now. I couldn't talk when I had it all."

"I didn't know that."

"There's a lot of things I can do that you don't know, Scott. Some I'm still learning." Lia sighed, leaning onto the bed frame for support.
