Unexpected Love

chapter 8: coffee mugs.

I was taking a hot shower after a long day. I applied my favourite body wash and started to scrub my body. My thoughts from my conversation with Ryder today was still lingering in my mind. Like how was his girlfriend so chill about being paired with another girl for 5 months.

Now that i noticed Ryder also didn't mind avery being paired up with Tom. Omg did they break up? No way i don't believe it. I made a mental note to ask Sierra about it. I finished my routine in the shower when I finally came to my room and I heard the sound of door clicking.

I think Ryder was probably here. I started to look for my clothes and i finally made it to the living room only to see Ryder and Darren glaring at each other. They looked like they were seconds away from punching eachother. I hurried up my steps until i came in the peripheral vision of both them. Ryder looked at me first and then Darren followed. I said a cautious "are you guys okay?"
Ryder sat down beside the table and said "yeah I was just meeting your charming friend who saved you."
I wrinkled my eyebrows at him as to why he said it like that. Darren gave me a smile and put a hand on my shoulder to say "we're good okay?" I smiled at him. Atleast one of them was convincing. Sierra finally clapped her hands after standing like a statue this whole time to say "we should probably get started. Do we work in separate rooms or together?"
"Together"
"Together"
Shouted by both Darren and Ryder. Me and Sierra stared at each other and i said "cool I'm gonna bring you guys something to drink"
" I'll help" Sierra said that and followed me to the kitchen.

As we entered the kitchen Sierra pulled my arm and said "is it just me or do you feel some kind of tension between the two of them?"
I grabbed two mugs and brewed the coffee in the coffee machine as i thought for the reason. "Maybe they were past lovers and have beef with each other." Sierra stared at me like that was the dumbest thing she ever heard. I chuckled at her and then she said "this is not funny. Do you not notice it they're jealous of each other"
I crossed my arms and faced her "and what is the reason for that?"
"You obviously."
" What?" I unfolded my arms and said "are you like high or something? Ryder does not fucking like me."
"Oh yeah" she poured the coffee in the mug as she said that.
"Yeah."
"Babe I've known Ryder longer than you have and he looks jealous as shit rn. Just look at him."
I followed her eyes to look at him he was looking at his shoes fidgeting with his hands god now that i see it he looks nervous too.
"Wait but doesn't he have a girlfriend-"
Before she heard what I said she already went out to give the coffee. I followed her and sat down beside Darren. Darren gave me a smile and said "thank you for the coffee." I smiled back at him and both Sierra and Ryder were staring at us while drinking coffee. I gave Sierra the big eyes to stop making it awkward.

We cleaned up after eating and drinking and finally got started on our work. Ryder pulled his chair closer to me as I was sitting near Darren and technically I was his partner so.

We worked together on our assignment. Our side was pretty quiet while working. Sierra and Darren moved to the couch cuz according to Sierra the chair's were too hard to work on. Those two were constantly bickering well it was mostly Sierra disagreeing on whatever Darren was saying. She was a perfectionist and i understand what Darren was going through rn. I almost felt bad for him. On the other hand, Ryder was just Just listening to whatever I was saying and typing it into my laptop.
We didn't talk much and i didn't say anything else accept school as well. I was still a little shaken up by the assumption Sierra put on me. So i decided to not say anything because I can't like a guy like him and he can't like a girl like me.

We finally finished the assignment after 3 hours it was now 11 pm. As i got up to stretch my legs Sierra was fast asleep and Darren was also sleeping. The only person awake after me was Ryder. He got up and he towered over me with his tall height "what are you gonna do about these two?"
I put a hand on my waist and said "well I'll put Sierra on her room and Darren will just sleep on the couch."
He raised his eyebrows at me "he'll stay the night?"
"Well I can't just wake him up like this."
"I can." I grabbed his hand before he woke up Darren. "stop. He'll just stay on the couch and I'll be in my room."
He stared at my hand still grabbing him and i quickly removed my hand when I realised. "Okay. Good night then."
I said goodbye to him and closed the door.
When I closed the door i finally exhaled the breath that i was holding.
I put a hand on my heart and why was it going so fast?
